QuickQuid administration is paying 53.5p in the £

Payments – UPDATE – 25 April 2022

Administrators have started sending emails to everyone with an upheld claim telling them what they will be paid.

“The Joint Administrators are now in a position to declare a first and final dividend of 53.5p in the £”

The average claim value is c £1,700. Someone with that claim value will get a payout of about £910.

The payout details are given in the email:

  • This will be paid over the next two weeks.
  • If the administrators couldn’t validate your banking details, it will be sent by cheque. I don’t know how the administrators will “validate” your details.
  • If you used a claims company, the money will be paid to them.
  • Most people are not having any deduction for tax paid to HMRC, so there is no need to reclaim anything.

Credit records

The administrators may decide to :
– remove any negative marks on your credit record
– delete all loans that were upheld
– delete all your loans.

I don’t know what they have chosen to do – if people can check and report in the comments when they see a change, that would be great.

How much your credit score will change will depend on whether there were any negative marks. If you want to get a mortgage, you would like as many payday loans gone as possible, even if they were repaid on time and not hurting your credit score.

In a few months when the administrators no longer talk to the CRAs you can ask for any remaining loans to be “suppressed” so other lenders can’t see them. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/correct-credit-records-lender-administration/ but it is too soon to do that now.

CashEuroNet administrators to pay 53.5p in the £ to QuickQuid and OnStride customers mis-sold unaffordablepayday loans

QuickQuid went into administration in October 2019

CashEuroNet (CEU), which owns the QuickQuid, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride brands, stopped giving loans and went into administration on 25 October 2019.

I will be talking about QuickQuid (QQ) rather than CashEuroNet as it is the more familiar name. Everything here also applies to loans from Cashruronet’s other brands, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride.

Grant Thornton were appointed as Administrators. They set up a page about Redress Complaints – this is their term for people who have asked for a refund because they were given unaffordable loans.

Background to the QuickQuid Administration

QuickQuid was one of the “Big Three” payday lenders in Britain, starting out in 2007.

After Wonga and the Money Shop Group had all stopped lending and gone bust over the last fifteen months, QuickQuid was left as the largest UK payday lender.

QuickQuid had well over a million customers. When it went into administration there were c. 500,000 customers with outstanding loans.

Many of these customers had prolonged borrowing from QQ. They either rolling loans over or repaid one loan but were left so short of money that they had to borrow again.

These customers have good reasons to win an affordability complaint and get a refund of the interest they paid.

Affordability complaints started on a small scale in 2015 and increased in the next few years.

In 2018, complaints going to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS) jumped with the involvement of Claims Companies and QuickQuid became the most complained about firm to FOS, excluding PPI complaints.

For a long time QQ refused to refund interest on any loans taken more than 6 years before or where the loans were given in 2015 or afterwards. This resulted in a huge backlog of claims at the Financial Ombudsman, where QQ had made very poor offers to customers and then rejected an adjudicator decision.

In late July 2019, QQ agreed to accept several thousand FOS complaints it had previously rejected.

By accepting the FOS decisions on loans over 6 years, long chains of borrowing, and loans taken after 2015, the scale of QQ’s likely future liability for refunds will have become clear to the company.

After failing to persuade the FCA that a Scheme of Arrangement was appropriate, Enova, CEU’s large and profitable US parent, decided to close the UK business, blaming the UK regulatory environment.

How could the regulators let this happen?

This is an excellent question… Stella Creasy, MP called for an inquiry into the FCA over Wonga and QuickQuid.

I have looked at the question here: More payday lenders go under in 2019 – was anything learned from Wonga?

What has happened in the administration

Customers with a valid claim for a refund are “unsecured creditors”. This includes:

  • any refunds that were in progress after an amount was agreed or a Final Decision from a FOS Ombudsman (FOS);
  • complaints that were underway at QQ or FOS when QQ went under;
  • any new complaints sent to the Administrators.

All complaints at FOS legally had to stop and were been passed back to the Administrators. It isn’t possible to send any new complaints to FOS.

It is now too late to submit a Claim for unaffordable lending. The last date was 14 February 2021.

The administrators have given the following statistics about claims:

  • 169,000 customers made claims for unaffordable lending;
  • 78,000 claims were upheld by the administrators;
  • the upheld claims had a total value of £136million, so an average of about £1,700 per claim.

Still owe a balance on a QuickQuid or On Stride loan?

More than 300,000 of the current loans were sold to Lantern in summer 2021. You should have been informed if your loan was sold.

The administrators have now stopped collecting any money from the remaining unsold loans.

    Hi Sara

Received an email from QQ back in September 2021 stating an accepted claim value of 3.5k. The email states that all of my loans have been accepted following on from them contacting a third party debt purchaser about it. As far as I last recall, a balance of around 1.2k was owed to QQ and I was being chased by PRA Group- But I haven’t heard from them in a long time.

I wanted to see in your opinion what to do on this and what I can expect to happen- Not asking about amounts just what likely outcome will be.

    Thanks in advance

      I don’t know.

Where only a low percentage is being paid out, the administrators normally sort out something with HMRC so no tax is deducted so there is nothing to reclaim. I don’t know what will apply in this case.

    Hi Sara,

I have sent some of the templates you put up to various payday lenders I’ve had over the years to start complaint procedures.

As you eluded too some have come back asking for bank statements around time of application. I have had a gambling issue for several years and my system are riddled with deposits to betting companies as well as payday lender loans.

Would you advise not sending statements as they could argue it’s my own fault getting into trouble gambling or would this help my cause it getting a redress. Some months I have found transactions totalling over £2000 in payments to 7 different lenders in one month alone. Then was approved for another loan the next month.

I have sent them statement but blanked out all the betting transactions but not sure if they’ll ask for the full copy.

    Any advice appreciated.

Gambling showing on your bank statements helps your case that the loans were unaffordable. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/gambling-refunds-loans-cards-overdrafts/

    Hi,

I have emailed a number of times since December 2021 to get my accepted claim email sent out. Ive emailed Grant Thornton direct and around 2-3 QQ email addresses. I have called them and they have said that the claim is there on their computer system, but I can’t help but feel as though something has gone awry. I keep getting an email stating that the issue is being escalated and I will receive it in due course. I initially used a third party CMC but as they are no longer FCA registered they can’t operate on my behalf. The company has also been dissolved.

Has anyone had a similar experience to this and if so, how did you get QQ to finally send your email out?

They have advised final figures will be around March and we won’t hear anything until then.
Any loans with debt collection agencies will be advised to write them off and a pay out estimated between 30p-50p per £1 to follow

Why are people continually emailing and calling the administrator’s?

Responding to these emails and phone calls will all be chargeable and will be deducted from the final pot before distribution to the unsecured creditors.

If your claim was accepted and you received an email telling you the amount and you have misplaced it then just wait till March and you will receive another email telling you what your payment amount will be. Chasing for payment also won’t speed up the process.

The administrator’s have said payment of between 30 and 50p in the £ and that the amount will depend on certain factors including ” staff and support services provided by Enova”. They will charge for each email/phone call received.

So come March if the dividend is nearer the 30p, don’t start moaning about the Administrator’s, thank your fellow claimants for sending multiple emails and calling chasing for things that they don’t need to chase for.

Ridiculous comment. I would imagine the administrators have a group of people assigned to this task including some admin staff replying to emails etc.

Id be amazed if the staff answering the phone and emails were working on a price per email basis.

They will likely be salaries and the salaries will likely come out of the pot however to suggest they tick off an amount of money for each email or call is ridiculous.

You can’t blame people for being a little bit eager to know more despite these details not being available yet.

Most of us on this thread have been in financial trouble me for a long time so can’t blame people for wanting to know.

        Hi Greg,

        Not a ridiculous comment.

Enova, QuickQuids American parent company are still dealing with queries and are billing the administrator’s for the work that they do. They continue to submit invoices for work that they do and up until October 2021 their fees totalled over £7 million.

So no, GT do not have a salaried team dealing with everything and as I have seen in previous administration’s namely Elevate (Sunny) each query was recorded and charged for.

As I said in my original post, don’t start moaning in March if the pay out is less one Enova submit a final huge invoice for answering queries.

I am calling time on this thread. There is no need for a bad tempered discsussion on this and some (but not all) of the comments I am deleting were pretty bad tempered.

Anyone who has a genuine quiestion should ask QQ/the administrators. Not wait until after redress has been paid – we know from Wonga that the more things were sorted out BEFORE redress payments started, the better.

I have not seen anyone suggesting making frivolous or vexatious questions – that would simply waste time and the money available to distribute.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for March. These are the same incompetent administrators that did Wonga, so no wonder it had been so long. I had to take a complaint to the CEOs office after a number of promises of payment that didn’t happen. After getting hold of the CEO Dave Dunckleys secretary, I got my payment the same day 6 weeks after first promised. There was also an investigation launched into Grant Thornton due to a conflict of interest as they were internal auditors for Wonga so should never have been appointed administrators.

But one of the loans i had with onstride was rejected and is on my credit file as a default. Which is obviously is having a massive effect on my credit score. i know i should have probably complained about it before the feb deadline last year, but is there anything i can do now to get them to remove the default?

No the balance was payed off in full, the reason for the default was due to missing payments because my bank card the funds were being taken off was updated. so they were unable to take the payment, and at the time i had so much going in and out of my account i didnt notice the payment not going out. i had no correspondence from them to notify me that the account was falling into default as this was going to my old address. i did try to complain about it at the time but they did nothing.

    Hello,

Since we are getting a little closer to a resolve on this matter, I thought I have a closer look, given the fairly high estimated dividend we have been told should be paid (30p-50p on the £).

Tell me if I’m wrong – there is about £56mio in cash, £135mio in redress claims, £79mio in unsecured creditors? Does the latter include the Enova Group claim of £71mio? Any other cash assets that are being realized at this point?

Just curious about the math of the calculation. Any other variables I’m missing?

Where’s my money. 5 months overdue. If it’s not in my bank soon, I’ will sue for late payment, say £100 a day. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. I don’t care if Enova go bankrupt , it’ll save millions of Americans from their exploitation. I need that money now, not at some mythical date in the far future.

You can’t sue for this money. Well, you could try, but not via a normal money claim in a county court. You would have to sue the administrators in the High Court and be able to show what insolvency rules they have broken…
It’s annoying the payout is taken so long but you will be getting a good % and these things take time.

Are you sure it is redress payment not a NOID overpayment.

If it’s a redress, what % in the pound is it?

I submitted a affordability complaint against QQ, was refused and so went to the FOS. Whilst my complaint was with the FOS, QQ announced they were going into administration. I have no idea whether I am one of the people expected to get anything as I haven’t heard anything in such a long time. Is there someone I can contact to see if I will even be likely to receive anything back? TIA

    Hi Sara,
I’m one of the seemingly increasing number of people who do not appear to have been contacted about whether their claim has been agreed and how much it might be. I’m not getting very far either calling the helpline (who promised to email me the most recent documents but haven’t – that was before Christmas) or by email. What comeback might I have if it turns out they haven’t even considered my claim or not given me a chance to appeal if they’ve turned it down? I had previously claimed through the Ombudsman who had agreed with part of my claim and had responded to QQ to that effect – that was interrupted when QQ went into Admin – then I claimed through the portal… apart from confirmation of receipt of my claim and the Grant Thornton updates, I’ve heard nothing.

Call me cynical but I cannot help but think it is Enova’s interest to drag out response times and seek as many emails and telephone calls from redress creditors as possible, as someone else recently posted. It would be interesting to see the finer details of the SLA between Enova and the administrators; I see Enova had already billed approx. USD10m for their services for the 2 year period ending Oct 21. It could be that Enova is reimbursed a set fee for each email/telephone call they receive. This is probably unhelpful speculation but I do think there is some merit to the above logic!

      It is pretty pointless speculation.
There are good reasons (waiting for HMRC) why refunds have not already been paid. And 30-50% will be decentish payout.
And the people making queries have a good reason for doing this.

Oh I totally get why payments haven’t been made. It is the amount of effort and time that it is taking, for what appears to be a significant minority of individuals, to obtain what should be a very straightforward piece of information/ task I.e. resending one email. From the number of posts on here, with folks chasing via email and calls, over a period of many months (like myself), it is clear things haven’t been running as smooth as one might expect. A couple of £m more in the pot for redress creditors (as opposed to Enova SLA fees) would just seem a little bit more equitable.

Hi, so after reading all the comment, knowing march was the date set for payments. I had not received anything from casheuro.net about my claim. It was done at first via email, then through the portal like they asked. Knowing my wonga claims were accepted I’m sure poundstopocket and onstride were going to aswell, being in a loop of debt with these companies.

Because not heard anything I decided to email like some of you were doing. Got a quick response saying my claim was rejected, and that an email was sent out on the 30/11/20.

I’m pretty sure they are picking out of hat who’s getting money back and who isn’t! All these claims are under the unaffordable criteria. So where’s the explanation for those being rejected.

        Hi,

I feel sorry for the people that didn’t pursue it before the deadline in Feb 2021. But many people didn’t because we didn’t know that the pay=out would so large.

Moral of the story, pursue any administration you apply for, before the deadline, just in case it hits the jackpot.

Our story is quite different to what some are assuming. We all did make a claim before the portal closed, all got the 1st few blanket emails that everyone got. Then silence from December 2020 onwards. I have personally chased them with over 18 emails with the same generic responses, that they are looking into it without a timescale of any answer. Well March is nearly here so where is our answers?
They have obviously messed up the administration side and are in hiding. This is a totally different subject to the people who have had their claims acceptance amounts emails, then subsequently lost them. We haven’t had anything from the administrators, this is a lot more people than some would believe.

In these uncertain times with food prices and energy prices rising the extra money will come in handy. However with the administrators saying we ” MAY ” pay between 30% to 50%. …I for one will not be taking anything for granted. The % could well end up been less.

So the wording of ‘by’ March is very poor.

They actually have until end of March to make payments as that is what the extension in court allowed. If they need to take longer to make payments, eg, in April they will have to goto court again to get another extension.

I don’t think they will have to go back to court provided they have stated how much will be paid. They do not have to have paid everyone by that time. I am not saying payments will extend into April definitely, but no-one should plan on getting theirs by the end of March.

    THESE ARE THE FACTS
    1) When the administrators said “by March” they meant “by the end of March”.
    2) Although this deadline could change if they went back to court, there is no reason to think this is going to happen.

    I SUGGEST EVERYONE:
    – sits back and waits for email saying what % will be paid
    – does not make any plans that reply on the money being in your account by the end of Feb, March or even April – payment problems do happen and can take time to resolve.
    – hope for the best, plan for the worst.

I am deleting comments that are criticising other posters. Also ones that are making wild statements that no one will be paid for months. or that the administrators are doing this to pocket more money.

      Well said!

No one knows what might happen so no point negatively speculating…..for all we know, there’s as much chance of it being over 50% as there is of it being under 30% haha (we can wish!)

Just wait and see when any official update comes up like we all have to :)

    Hi,

Sorry this is off topic for this thread but does anyone know what is happening with Piggy Bank? The last I heard from them was well over a year ago when they said they had accepted my redress complaint. Their wesbite doesn’t seem to have any updates.

    H sara,
Im after some advice had an email from casheuronet this morning saying that my official receiver from my bankruptcy in 2012 would be paid anymoney from my redress not myself. Just wondered if you knew after 10 years (well 10 years this june) can this cash still be taken away from me to pay on the bankruptcy just seems such a long time.

If they were before your bankruptcy, the refund should go to the OR. Even if the looans had been repaid and were not included in your bankruptcy, that isn’t relevant.

You had the legal right to make a claim for a refund at the point you went bankrupt, even though you would not have known anything about this at the time. That legal right was an asset that legally became the proprty of the OR and remains so to this day. This may feel unfair but there is nothing you can do to challenge this – it happened a LOT with PPI claims, it is standard practice foe lenders and ORs what has to happen.
