QuickQuid administration is paying 53.5p in the £

Payments – UPDATE – 25 April 2022

Administrators have started sending emails to everyone with an upheld claim telling them what they will be paid.

“The Joint Administrators are now in a position to declare a first and final dividend of 53.5p in the £”

The average claim value is c £1,700. Someone with that claim value will get a payout of about £910.

The payout details are given in the email:

  • This will be paid over the next two weeks.
  • If the administrators couldn’t validate your banking details, it will be sent by cheque. I don’t know how the administrators will “validate” your details.
  • If you used a claims company, the money will be paid to them.
  • Most people are not having any deduction for tax paid to HMRC, so there is no need to reclaim anything.

Credit records

The administrators may decide to :
– remove any negative marks on your credit record
– delete all loans that were upheld
– delete all your loans.

I don’t know what they have chosen to do – if people can check and report in the comments when they see a change, that would be great.

How much your credit score will change will depend on whether there were any negative marks. If you want to get a mortgage, you would like as many payday loans gone as possible, even if they were repaid on time and not hurting your credit score.

In a few months when the administrators no longer talk to the CRAs you can ask for any remaining loans to be “suppressed” so other lenders can’t see them. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/correct-credit-records-lender-administration/ but it is too soon to do that now.

CashEuroNet administrators to pay 53.5p in the £ to QuickQuid and OnStride customers mis-sold unaffordablepayday loans

QuickQuid went into administration in October 2019

CashEuroNet (CEU), which owns the QuickQuid, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride brands, stopped giving loans and went into administration on 25 October 2019.

I will be talking about QuickQuid (QQ) rather than CashEuroNet as it is the more familiar name. Everything here also applies to loans from Cashruronet’s other brands, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride.

Grant Thornton were appointed as Administrators. They set up a page about Redress Complaints – this is their term for people who have asked for a refund because they were given unaffordable loans.

Background to the QuickQuid Administration

QuickQuid was one of the “Big Three” payday lenders in Britain, starting out in 2007.

After Wonga and the Money Shop Group had all stopped lending and gone bust over the last fifteen months, QuickQuid was left as the largest UK payday lender.

QuickQuid had well over a million customers. When it went into administration there were c. 500,000 customers with outstanding loans.

Many of these customers had prolonged borrowing from QQ. They either rolling loans over or repaid one loan but were left so short of money that they had to borrow again.

These customers have good reasons to win an affordability complaint and get a refund of the interest they paid.

Affordability complaints started on a small scale in 2015 and increased in the next few years.

In 2018, complaints going to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS) jumped with the involvement of Claims Companies and QuickQuid became the most complained about firm to FOS, excluding PPI complaints.

For a long time QQ refused to refund interest on any loans taken more than 6 years before or where the loans were given in 2015 or afterwards. This resulted in a huge backlog of claims at the Financial Ombudsman, where QQ had made very poor offers to customers and then rejected an adjudicator decision.

In late July 2019, QQ agreed to accept several thousand FOS complaints it had previously rejected.

By accepting the FOS decisions on loans over 6 years, long chains of borrowing, and loans taken after 2015, the scale of QQ’s likely future liability for refunds will have become clear to the company.

After failing to persuade the FCA that a Scheme of Arrangement was appropriate, Enova, CEU’s large and profitable US parent, decided to close the UK business, blaming the UK regulatory environment.

How could the regulators let this happen?

This is an excellent question… Stella Creasy, MP called for an inquiry into the FCA over Wonga and QuickQuid.

I have looked at the question here: More payday lenders go under in 2019 – was anything learned from Wonga?

What has happened in the administration

Customers with a valid claim for a refund are “unsecured creditors”. This includes:

  • any refunds that were in progress after an amount was agreed or a Final Decision from a FOS Ombudsman (FOS);
  • complaints that were underway at QQ or FOS when QQ went under;
  • any new complaints sent to the Administrators.

All complaints at FOS legally had to stop and were been passed back to the Administrators. It isn’t possible to send any new complaints to FOS.

It is now too late to submit a Claim for unaffordable lending. The last date was 14 February 2021.

The administrators have given the following statistics about claims:

  • 169,000 customers made claims for unaffordable lending;
  • 78,000 claims were upheld by the administrators;
  • the upheld claims had a total value of £136million, so an average of about £1,700 per claim.

Still owe a balance on a QuickQuid or On Stride loan?

More than 300,000 of the current loans were sold to Lantern in summer 2021. You should have been informed if your loan was sold.

The administrators have now stopped collecting any money from the remaining unsold loans.

Emailed them this morning, querying if they had an update on the NOID refunds that were anticipated to be refunded by end of November. This was the response:

Thank you for contacting CashEuroNet UK, LLC

In regards to your query, at this time there is no update to provide on the over payment disbursements. Please continue to monitor your email.

Updates will be provided as they become available and will be forwarded to all creditors. We appreciate your patience.

I just wandered where people are getting this information that the potential redress is going to be between 30p and 50p in the £. I think you need to wake up and smell the coffee. I think someone had misread this and it was actually 3p to 5p in the £ if were lucky.

This administration has been going on for an exceptional amount of time. Over 70000 accepted complaints for miss selling. That same amount of people waiting to hear their final redress amount. Do you honestly think the administrators would print between 30-50p on their report if they weren’t confident on the amount. That would be very embarrassing for Grant Thornton and a colossal balls up.

It would be underneath your accepted claim value like mine was below:

Total interest and fees on loans £x,xxx.xx
        Total compensatory interest £xxx.xx
        Accepted claim value £x,xxx.xx
Refund for overpayment on CashEuroNet UK, LLC loan £xxx.xx

So as far as I’m aware, I have an accepted claim value which potentially we could get 30% of.
On top of that, they are refunding a separate amount which is overpayment after they went into administration as I was still making repayments in 2020.

This is NOT the main refund, it only affects people who have been making loan repayments during the administration after a certain date. They won’t be that many and they may well all be paid in one batch.

When the main refund is paid this is very likely to be in batches and it is very likely they will be in a random order, not by date of claim, date of claim decided, date of loans surname, bank, size of refund or any other factor.

I hadn’t received any emails from Casheuronet since around Feb ’21.
I didn’t receive the administrators update in November, nor did I receive an email about the NOID refund.
I emailed them about it and this evening received this update:-

“Unfortunately, we have experienced unforeseen issues in respect to overpayment as a result of set-iff, which we are working to resolve as soon as we are able. We anticipate that we will resolve these issues within the next 4 to 6 weeks. We apologise again for teh delay and will update you as soon as the issues have been resolved.”

If this was the case then why would they send an email to various people outlining what they are due to get back and when?

Emailed yesterday and got the following reply –

Many apologies about the delay in the over payment redress. The end of November estimated date was never a guarantee, it was the projected date. We have escalated the matter to the Administrators to see if we can get a more definitive time frame and are awaiting a reply. Many thanks for your patience.

Fed up of being patient now, I think we’ve been patient long enough. Sara, I know you said don’t bank on it but people do. Especially people that are desperate enough to use payday loans in the first place.

They really shouldn’t have said November in the first place if it they weren’t sure it was going to happen. They would have been better off just saying will be paid at some point before the redress payments, then we wouldn’t have got our hopes up and they wouldn’t have to waste time answering countless emails.

            Hi Oliver

Yes mine is definitely an overpayment. The value was listed at the end of the accepted claim as “ refund for overpayment”

I did check my payments made after the NOID
            and they match exactly.

It’s just so frustrating that even if you email them the replies vary so much. It’s obvious that

I did receive an ‘interim’ payment via cheque around April time. The cheque came from a company called Arc and when I queried it with CashEuroNet they advised the following.

“Please be advised that the cheque you received from ARC was sent to you because it was determined that your account had already been paid in full by the time we received this payment.”

Robert’s “interim payment” was from the Money Shop, not the QQ administration.

It sounds as though Sasha’s “interim payment” was simply a refund of money when she had paid too much to settle a loan by mistake, nothing to do with a refund.

The NOID payments some people are getting at the moment are not an interim payment of part of the refund,-they are a separate repayment when someone made payments after a certain point in the administration to a loan which has been decided to be unaffordable.

N0-ONE should be hoping for an interim payment of part of their refund – this is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Hi without sounding stupid I’ve had an accepted claim value of 8000 pound but not on an overpayment just on interest and fees, does this mean I can expect around 3000 back?and is this expected in March?

A small number of people (not a lot) have received payments because they are in an unusual situation – they made payments after a certain point in the administration to a debt which has been decided to be unaffordable. These extra payments are refunded in full – so the % everyone else will get isn’t relevant and there is no need to wait until the % is known.

The general delay is because of a number of factors including selling the remaining loans to a debt collector, assessing claims where a loan had been sold before administration to a debt collector and the need to get tax clearance from HMRC.

If the average claim is £1700 then that would work out to £500-£600M of irresponsible lending – probably more from people that didn’t claim. Apparently they left because of regulation. They entered because of terrible regulation. The irony.
Ultimately I still blame myself (my claim is around £1400) but the regulators facilitated this situation making it too hard to get a reasonable high street loan and allowing these companies to enter.
I’m now in a position I don’t have any debt (mortgage aside), it feels good to see some positive results for everyone.
    Lesson learned.

I’m guessing all payments for the overpayment line are on hold again as it’s gone a bit quiet on here. Strange they paid a few then stopped it all. Wonder what the issue is if it’s an amount set aside and owed back.

I’d like to know as well. Every time we seem to be getting somewhere an “unforeseen circumstance” happens.
My overpayment is only 400.00 but would have come in really handy at he moment.

Let’s face we will be lucky to get any payments both re-imbursements and redresses by March 2022. In March they will announce payments owed officially, but doesn’t mean you will get it. Don’t budget for it! Possibly next Christmas, quoting ‘unforeseen circumstances’. Remember the country’s gonna be back in lockdown next month, that will slow things down with the HRMC tax permissions, along with the economic instability looming.

    Hi Sara,
I’m currently applying for a mortgage and a series of Quick Quid loans (12) have come up on my report from 2016-2018 that are effecting my credit application, all loans were short term for a month or so and are all satisfied, in my ignorance I didn’t think this would effect my credit file so much.
I was unware QQ were going into admin and therefore didn’t apply for these loans to be deemed unaffordable and now I understand I’ve missed the deadline?
Is there anyway of getting these removed from my credit files?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Yes but not yet… if you wait another 6 months or so, then the administrators will have stopped replying to the credit reference agencies and you can ask for the records to be “suppressed” – but it is too soon to do this now. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/correct-credit-records-lender-administration/

BUT these loans are old. You may well be able to get mortgage at an OK rate with them. Are you going through a broker?

Yes, me too. I never received any more correspondence from them after an email in December last year. Which stated they were contacting the agency my debts had been sold to.
I have since over the last 5 weeks emailed them 3 times to get the same reply 3 times.

“Thank you for contacting CashEuroNet UK, LLC

We are sorry you did not receive your original assessment that was sent.  We have requested a copy be resent to you.  This will be emailed to you as soon as received.

      Kind Regards,
      Pam

For and on behalf of CashEuroNet UK, LLC
      The Joint Administrators”

Think it may not be as rare as Sara thinks. Just for reference they never sent me anything that may have ended up in my spam, just like they have sent me nothing in response to these 3 emails, apart from the above reply 3 times.
Have they made an error somewhere and forgot to include a batch of people and have now gone quiet while they look into it? Who knows!

Same here! I hadn’t received any email communication regarding my accepted claim value (but was putting that down to my super sensitive Hotmail account filtering it away). I called the helpline in November who confirmed my claim had been partially upheld but then were unable to find any details / the email that had been sent out. I’m still awaiting for the final claim value to be resent. It does appear to be a little odd and I do wonder if there has been a bit of a mix up (and some red faces @ GT)?

It is not that we couldn’t find our emails. It is because our claims had been forgotten about and no emails had ever been sent out to us. The last we heard was they were contacting the DMC our debts had been passed to. Mine was over a year ago.
That is why they are not responding to our emails with the information we have requested, just the usual generic replies. Wonder what the real figure is for the people this is affecting? Could it be isolated to a few or excessive numbers? Remember not everyone comes on here to discuss the current situation or comments, they just read the helpful advice and others situations.

Shame, I am aware the delay in redress payments is due to HMRC tax inspectors taking 16 weeks to finalise the tax arrangements.

I could do with the money now as it Christmas and January is a long month before before I get my next wage payment.

Again, a classic case of tax causing grief & hardship for the ordinary person, but hay if you’re a global corporation that owes millions or billions in tax they get the red carpet treatment.

I think the financial system needs to change for the benefit of masses rather than a privileged few.

Just need the HMRC to get back to work, lol.

Contacted them on December 10th asking for the value of my claim, said I would have it in 2 weeks, still waiting multiple emails to chase and calls and just keep getting told it has been escalated

    Hello,

I received an email saying my accepted redress amount is £12,293

Further down the email is a breakdown of the loans and the last line has the following:
    Start Date: 30/01/13
    Loan Amount: £800
    Paid Interest and Fees: £700.07
    Accepted/Rejected: Accepted
Loan sold to debt purchaser: Yes

Because it is so long ago, I can’t remember if I paid the £700, or not. After reading this article, I have searched my emails for anything from Lantern, and found something from 2019 that I would have dismissed as junk as I’ve never heard of them and not associated to Quick Quid

It says my outstanding balance is 1053.80, so my question is will this be deducted from my payout? Or written off as it says accepted? If neither, can I contest it based on the loan being proven as unaffordable?

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense or has been asked before, I’m just very confused!

The £700 paid is from their records so yo7 can assume you did pay that…

It says my outstanding balance is 1053.80, so my question is will this be deducted from my payout?
Possibly but probably not – sorry the administrators are being very unhelpful about this. It may be different in different situation…. You have to ask the administrators what is happening in your case.

accepted/rejected – this may just mean that your affordability complaint about this loan was upheld.

This debt is very old. It may be statute barred. Which may be why Lantern (who used to be known as MMF) haven’t contacted you since 2019. One option for you is to do nothing about Lantern and see if they ever contact you again… if they do, produce this email (KEEP IT SAFE you will not be able to get another copy of it in a years time as the administration will have been closed down) and say the loan was decided to be unaffordable so you should only have to pay what you originally borrowed which is £800 lessth3 £700 already paid. Come back and ask for more help if this happens…

Thank you so much for your help

Good luck to everyone with their claims, fingers crossed they pay out more rather than less, and sooner rather than later :)
