Quick overview
Provident’s Scheme of Arrangement is now in the final stages.
The Scheme was proposed because Provident could not afford to carry on paying full refunds to customers winning affordability complaints. The Financial Ombudsman was upholding 75% of complaints against Provident.
The FCA, Provident’s regulator, said it did not approve of the Scheme. But as Provident has stopped providing doorstep loans, the FCA did not object to the Scheme in court.
It started officially on 5 August 2021 after it was approved in court. The deadline for claims was the end of February 2022.
Provident has assessed claims and informed customers of their decision. The large majority of appeals have been held.
Provident is making payments to bank accounts or sending cheques:
- it is paying 4.2557p in the £;
- so if your redress was £1,000, you will receive about £42;
- a final letter will be uploaded to your portal account setting out the payment;
- the first bank payments will be arriving in accounts on Tuesday 5 July.
Here is confirmation from one reader (see the comments below for others):
FUNDS PENDING!!!
Hi all, I’m new to this to thread but just thought I would give an update.
I have a Monzo account, it is showing my Bacs credit as going into my account on Monday, for most people with standard accounts this means you will be be paid Tuesday
I can also confirm it is 4.2557% as stated.
Glad it’s eventually been sorted.
But no-one should assume they will get their payment next week.
They may be going out in batches. And in any mass payment, some of them fail. Do not plan your July finances on the assumption that you will get paid early in the month.
Which loans were covered by the Scheme?
More than 4 million people were given a loan by Provident that comes under the Scheme.
These loans were given between 6 April 2007 and 17 December 2020.
The loans came from four different brands:
- Provident – often called “doorstep loans” or “home credit”;
- Satsuma payday loans;
- Greenwood – another doorstep loan brand that hasn’t been used since 2014;
- Glo – a very small guarantor loan brand.
If you have an affordability complaint about Vanquis or Moneybarn, these complaints are NOT included in the Scheme. You can still make a normal affordability complaint and get a full refund.
The definition of “unaffordable”
A loan is only “affordable” if you could repay it on time and still be able to pay your other debts, bills and living expenses.
You may have paid the loan on time, but it may still have been unaffordable.
If paying Provident left you so short of money you had to borrow more or you got behind with bills then it was “unaffordable”.
If you had several loans without a break between them, then Provident should have realised you were trapped in a cycle of borrowing and that these expensive loans were not affordable. Even a single loan can be unaffordable if it is large.
How much will you be paid?
The next stage is for Provident to divide up the £50 million in the Scheme between the people who have had their complaints upheld.
Customers who made a claim have been told which loans have been upheld and what the total redress for these loans is. You will be paid a percentage of this redress number, not all of it.
When the Scheme was voted on, many people thought they were being told that the payout would be 10%, or 10p in the £. I said at the time that that looked unlikely and it could only have been based on an unusually low number of people making a claim.
For several months Provident has been quoting a range, saying:
Based on the claims that we have received to date, we estimate that the pence in the pound rate of compensation to be paid to each customer will be between 4-6p.
Now it is known that Provident will only be paying 4.2557p in the £.
A final letter will be added to your portal account setting out what you will be paid.
Credit records will be cleaned
In other schemes and Administrations, some people say getting rid of a default was the most important result for them. Not the small cash refund!
For upheld loans, any defaults or missed payments will be removed from your credit record.
This clean up will be done at the end, when they can do everyone’s together. This is very annoying if you want to make a mortgage application, but there is nothing you can do to speed it up.
If your credit record is not cleaned in this process, there will probably be no-one to complain to about this. But there is process for resolving this sort of problem, see Correct credit records by “suppressing” them if the lender has disappeared.
Current loans
Loans that were sold to a debt collector
If your loan was sold to a debt collector, Provident is trying to get this settled. This seems to be taking some time, for example with Lowell saying they haven’t been given the right information from Provident. Several people are complaining about these in the comments below.
Loans that hadn’t been sold were written off in December 2021
In December Provident announced that it was no longer collecting any payments for existing loans:
There is nothing you need to do. You can stop making payments on your outstanding loans owed to PPC and if your payments are taken by the Continuous Payment Authority (CPA), we will stop these for you. Any payments made after 31st December 2021 will be paid back to you.
If you’re in arrears or didn’t pay your loan within the time we agreed when you got your loan, we’ll update your file with our Credit Reference Agency to show the balance as zero and partially settled.
Your credit record is being changed to show that the loan is partially settled or partially satisfied.
If you are a Provident or Satsuma customer, you should have been told about this by email or letter.
That is a pathetic payout
Provident is a successful company with the profitable Vanquis and Moneybarn brands which are still in business. It is a disgrace that the regulator has allowed them to structure their business in a way that has permitted Provident to abandon all its doorstep lending customers and not pay them their proper redress.
If you are feeling mad that Provident has got away with paying you so little, this is the time to look at whether you can make other affordability complaints, not just for loans but for other types of credit.
I have a separate page for each sort, as they need slightly different template letters to complain:
- refunds for large loans, including Moneybarn and other car finance;
- refunds from catalogues and credit cards such as Vanquis;
- refunds from overdrafts
- Morses scheme
- refunds from other doorstep lenders;
- refunds from Lending Stream, Safetynet Credit and other payday lenders.
pamela kent says
When will cheque payments be sent out i would not put bank details on line.
Kerry says
I received mine today
Gord says
Person who is dealing with my case has just sent me an email that she will no longer be replying to my emails until she has an update from an adjudicator so refusing to communicate with me now shambles
Julie Stock says
I have just spoken to a really unhelpful person as my money is still not in my account and was told that I will just have to wait until the payment fails. Surely there is something more that they can do to look into where it has gone.
Gord says
They point blank refused to look into mine I emailed joe.sweeney@provident.co.uk who passed it to someone called Kirsty stott absolute useless but keep emailing them that’s how I found out I hadn’t been paid waiting for my appeal back but other people who have appeals in got paid when I sent her screen shots of all the people who had been paid and proved they were liars she then refused to answer my emails unless she had an update she stated that she could contact finance dept herself where call handlers cant
Paul says
It’s pointless calling them I’ve called twice and it’s completely lacking in customer service. They can’t give you a straight answer! I had my bank details wiped and now I am waiting on a cheque that seems to have got lost in the post. Rubbish like all cheques will be sent by the 15th is about believable as the last prime minister. Don’t expect a cheque anytime soon, maybe at the end of the month if you’re lucky. No one on here has received a cheque and with two days to the 15th I doubt their claims. However, their still peddling this rubbish. As for the staff after my experience in two calls I am glad their out of a job they surely deserve it!
Paul says
Oh yeah if anyone wants to complain Joe Sweeney can be called in 07884476098. He’s the manager of the complaints department for provident. Thanks to the FCA for providing the number 👍
Gord says
I got this from FCA didn’t answer phone but I emailed him then got an email from someone called Kirsty stott he had passed it to she was totally useless when I sent her proof of all the lies she replied she would not be replying to my emails unless she has an update for me shocking they won’t help
Julie Stock says
Have you spoken to him? If so was he any help?
Keith H says
I had an email reply today from Provident ”
Your compensation will be issued via cheque and you should receive it within the first three weeks of July.”
Hope this helps
Jax says
Hi, for anyone wanting to know about credit report updates; my credit file has been updated and provident has now disappeared.
Myra says
Just wanted to come on here and say my credit report has been cleaned from provident, it was the only negative marker and my score shot up by 284 points. So happy with this
Jim says
Has it been removed from all the Credit Reference Agencies? Mine has only gone from Experian so far.
Myra says
Hi
It’s only been removed from Experian so far so hoping transunion will be next
Jim says
Thank you Myra. That’s reassuring to hear.
Jim says
Default removed from my Experian credit file. Still showing on Transunion. Assume this will be removed in due course as well.
Sandra says
Transunion are terrible at removing marks or accounts.
I dispute an account with equifax, experian and transunion only one that refused to remove was transunion.
Sam says
We received a cheque today so hopefully everyone will receive there’s soon
Paula m says
Hi Sara and all just informing I received a cheque for £130.16 this morning, from getting nil and going to the adudactor to receive this, it’s better than nothing, thank you Sara for the information and hope everyone gets theirs sorted

Hi everyone just thought I would come on and let people know I recieved my cheque this morning. So if your like me and couldn’t get onto portal payment is arriving.
Diane says
Cheque arrived this morning, a little more than the lowest estimate. Good luck everyone,
Ally G says

Maxine says
No cheque yet
Joanne says
I also have had no cheque
Lorraine says
No cheque either!!!!
Linda wicks says
No cheque today
Dorabelle says
No cheque for me neither
Amanda says
No cheque either, I phoned them yesterday and they said if we haven’t received it by the end of next week to contact them. Hopefully it turns up soon as the letter in the portal is dated a week ago.
Chris says
Anybody had any luck with lowell solicitors closing/responding to the loan they bought from provident that was deemed unaffordable?
Lucy says
Contacted Lowell today my account input my Lowell account number and the automated voice said it had been closed spoke to a guy. (he sounded a little scared, dont blame him …) to verify this and it has it was closed on the 22nd July. The guy said they are sending letters out to people regarding refunds this month from Lowell. Phew thats one debt down!
Elizabeth says
No cheque for my daughter either????
Michelle says
Iv not received my cheque qhat are they playing at 😡
Carol MacNeish says
Not received cheque either. Told would receive first week july then second week. But nothing to date. Portal stated 7th july it was sent.
Amanda says
Mine says it was sent the same date, still have not received it.
Ally G says
That’s mad if saying that in portal 7th sent as post only taking 3days would seem , as on my cheque I received they wrote it the 11th July I got in post 14th July 3days later .
Julie says
Still no money in my account despite them saying they paid it on 1st July. Again, as it is not showing as failed, they cannot do anything. What happens when its the end of the month and there is no one to contact?
Paul Hardy says
No cheque issued to me yet either again once portal stating letter dated 7th. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if provident have sent all cheques in post with no postage on. It’s a very poor show but then again why would we expect anything any different from provident. They just simply do
Not care and anyone who believes otherwise is totally deluded. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it comes when it comes if ever
Appealing also that the other arms of provident have been allowed to continue trading and are now in profit. My belief is that they shouldn’t be allowed to go back into profit until all claims had been paid in full and by the proper amount not the measly amounts they are paying. Disgraceful put apart from claimants NO ONE CARES
Christopher Smith says
My cheque arrived Saturday 16th pittance but will bank it
Claim was accepted of £654.07 and cheque issued for £27 and pence .Looking forward to purchasing a Hydundai motor car i30 costing £23,000 approx .
So looks like I turn to the demon drink and have a Pepsi Max cola cheers everyone.Hense won’t make that mistake or the bookies/ Bingo/ off licence / pub / takeaway etc .
Paul Hardy says
Mine was also received Saturday and banked as TSB open Saturday. My claim was £6000 plus less £2000 owed so around £4200. Received was £181 less £54 allegiance finance fee for claim so end up with about £127
Congratulations once again to the fsa for agreeing to such a pathetic payout when provident as a whole company continue to make profit. It’s a disgrace and they will pop up again in the high credit market exploiting people forever and a day while ever they continue to exist. Loopholes for losing £50 million in claims will be tightened. Wondering just what is the point of any of the financial supposed authorities and ombudsmen call them whatever you like in situations like this there really is no point in existing at all.
Everyone says oh better than nothing etc etc which is the way of this country and attitude of just accepting crap no matter what it is
At the end of the day NO ONE REALLY CARES AT ALL including the regulators. Wondering how many MPs have interests in one way or another in provident and the like?? Quite a few I assume I’m this highly profitable sector leeching off the poor and vulnerable who have no option but to borrow from the likes of provident as at the end of the day provident for their entire history knew these vulnerabilities and profited to the extreme and still are continuing to this day
DONT FORGET FOLKS NO ONE CARES AT ALL
Christopher smith says
Hi Paul yes in olden days I worked and used credit from NWS ( North West securities) I used to get a car loan for less than the bank interest rate 1 % less unusual ? Plus this wasn’t a once only affair . NWS is a bank of Scotland company .I banked with them .
This occurred to me that a new provident ,new name will rise from ashes and rip of the poor with door step lending as you stated .
Again the system is tarnished with MPs in parliament having two jobs ,MPs salary and Government ministers job as well ,and a generous 2nd salary as well for this .Plus he’s a director of Barclays bank and several other companies etc. All salary positions etc.
Foot note I worked channel 5 as a retuner a long time and the less work you did the more pay collecting signatures if the house , flat had only a tv . Hence the for make work pay is stupid .
Richard says
The FCA didn’t have anything to do with the payout through the Scheme that was down to us voting to have £50M split between all claimants.
I was surprised to see a payment of £14 odd in my bank today from another company trading as MyJar who I had 2 loans from years ago.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
It is the FCAs fault that Provident were allowed to misspell for so many years, that they were allowed to trade with insufficient capital to pay redress, that they were allowed to set up the Scheme, and that there is no fall back compensation mechanism.
What other high cost lending have you used? You can get much more back by complaining before a lender goes under.
Marc says
I know it’s a serious subject and i’m genuinely not making fun of anyone at all here. I am also not “The Grammar Police” that you come across from time to time. But if you can’t see the funny side of the statement “Provident were allowed to misspell for so many years” then there’s something wrong with you. Made my day :-)
SaraE says
There is a chance I guess that it’s not showing as failed if either 1 provident haven’t sent it or 2 it’s been paid into a bonifide account – just not yours, so this would never show as failed.
Gord says
Is anybody still waiting on bank payment I received letter last week from adjudicator not upheld and joe sweeney was going to prioritise my payment we’ll still waiting and the reply I got today was the finance dept can’t just issue a payment they are getting done in batches and can’t just add an extra payment on to there lust total buckshot and bank transfer hasn’t been made yes despite getting a letter on portals advising payment was made on 1/7/22
Gord says
More like they’ve not sent they still haven’t sent mine and I got the letter saying it was sent 1/7/22
Jayne smith says
If you got Allegiant to help you claim you DO NOT need to pay them any % as couldn’t help after it was capped, I got it in writing
Elizabeth says
I’d that for any company acting for you? I’ve not received a cheque Belmont chasing me for £160 I may just not pay it
Amanda says
I did my claim through them and they have sent me an invoice but don’t even reply when you ask them a question, where did u see the info about not having to pay them please.
Alex says
I sent an email asking about this, shock horror no reply, but yet was able to send me an invoice for % I owe them??? What have you got in writing?
Shelley cooper says
Could you please show me this in writing ,I am getting £36 but they have already invoiced me for there £11 and I’ve not even got the cheque yet
Gaz says
Has anybody received there cheque yet through a claims management company..I claimed through charterHouse claims I had an email from them on the 30th of May telling me what my upheld claims were never appealed now trying to contact charterhouse to get an update and even they seem to be non responsive.
Paul Hardy says
You won’t get a cheque from the claims management company it will come from provident directly. The claims company would have been notified your cheque is on the way. If you log into your provident portal account it will show this on the letters there
john says
I am still waiting, I went with Allison Allcott, I had an email Tuesday saying they had contacted provident and a cheque had been sent in the post, but nothing yet,
Kelly Hill says
I have received a letter in my portal. It says my cheque is attached but when I download the letter it’s not there. Will it arrive in the post?
Linda wicks says
Your cheque will be posted.mine arrived today
Julie says
Did you receive a letter in your portal
Linda wicks says
Hi yes there was a letter in the portal. It was the letter they attached to the cheque that arrived on Saturday x
Jo says
Hi I got the letter with a cheque attached but on top of that their texting me to pay £75, has this happened to you?
Vanessacory says
I have received my cheque today the date on the cheque was 13th July I went through allegiant.
Paul Hardy says
Likewise my cheque also finally received today with the same date and also went through them also
With thanks for the financial conduct authority for absolutely nothing whatsoever. My payment in reality should have been £4200 received £181 what a sterling job you are doing FCA keep up the good work. Provident are continuing still to make profits but this is allowed is nothing short of scandalous. But as we no no one apart from us actually care
What a complete waste of public funding the FCA are
Dorabelle says
Still no cheque
Joanne says
I still haven’t received my cheque even though they is a letter in my portal which went on there the 8th July
Joanna says
My cheque came in the post more money than I expected
Julie says
All of the queries seem to be about the cheques which were sent out after the money was deposited in peoples account. I am one of the few that they said they deposited the money in my account on1/7 and it still hasnt arrived or is not showing as failed. I am in limbo despite calling every day.
Julie says
Hi has anyone not received a letter in portal like me yet
Lorraine says
Hi
Can’t even get into portal what a joke!!!!!!
Sue worsley says
Hi me neither cheques should have been here nothing it’s a nightmare and closing date very soon
Lorraine says
Hi Sue
Do you know when the closing date is?
Thanks Lorraine
Sue worsley says
Hi Lorraine not sure but believe it’s the end of July still not got my cheque the whole thing has been a nightmare .
Dorabelle says
I haven’t
Robert says
Yes just original doc with breakdown nothing yet about a cheque so in the same boat!
Christine says
Well just checked on my online account again and my lowell solicitors account still live!!! This is ridiculous provident told me they had informed lowell the account they bought was deemed unaffordable, I’m stuck as if i phone lowell they are just so rude and abrupt any advice anybody on next steps?
Lucy says
Christine
I was told from provident to wait until I recieve the final letter. I’m in the same boat as you with Lowell.
I’m not entirely sure or convinced what Lowell are upto.
Yes they are rude and abrubt! Its appualing their attitude especially in this current crisis that we live in.
Christine says
It’s terrible it says on my final payment letter that lowell had been informed the account they bought was deemed unaffordable and any further query’s I had to now contact Lowell solicitors direct as it’s now nothing to do with provident, but there SO unapproachable “as you have been told on many occasions nothing has changed since your last phone call we still own your account, keep repaying your account or face the consequence’s”
Richard says
I think if I was in the position like a lot of people on here who’s debt was bought by a 3rd party debt collection agency who is still demanding payment for a loan since written off by Provi as “Unaffordable, ” I would sue them in your County Court, doesn’t cost much, you don’t need a solicitor.
Let the Court decide if you owe them, I highly doubt they will even turn up, and if they do then I believe the debt will be written off completely.
I also believe that these 3rd party ambulance chasing companies who help with your claim and demand 33% of your refund when they did absolutely nothing as you did it all via the portal yourself. Refuse to pay their invoices mke sure you have all your Provident letters from the portal to hand. These companies were PPI bandits.
Get Age Concern or local Free law centre, CAB etc to draft this letter for you. Hopefully They will try take you to Court but again I believe you would win your case.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I disagree with most of this.
Court is not a good place to try to resolve these sort of complaints. Most District Judges will never have come across this sort of situation with a Scheme. You need to argue that Equitable Set Off should be applied, and while that is valid, it is not a simple money claim. Better to take your complaint about the debt collector to the Ombudsman.
Also Equitable Set Off is a defence if you are sued. You cannot sue someone on that basis.
And if you don’t pay a claims company they are very like to take you to court for a CCJ. Unless they told you when the Scheme started that they would not be charging a fee.
Gord says
Does anybody know what judge and high court approved of this scheme it’s time they knew exactly how provident are running this scheme
Sara (Debt Camel) says
There is no “report back” mechanism.
Richard says
I can’t reply to your post again Sara, perhaps you don’t want one ?
All cases going to County Court go before a Registrar before they even get anywhere near a District Judge. Most claims and disputes are settled that way in the first instance especially if the Respondent is a no show.
Anyway, thanks again for your help and advice, and I certainly won’t be doing any more irresponsible borrowing in future.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
(Because of the way comments are “nested” there is a limit to the number that can be replied to or the later comments would be unreadable on a mobile. I am not trying to limit replies!)
I am well aware of how county court cases are heard. If you are hoping that a debt collector will not defend these claims, you are in fantasy land. It is MUCH better to take a complaint to the Ombudsman.
Kim Northcott says
Still no cheque, iam using Ingram Toft they were told 2weeks ago that cheques were being sent out in batches! Still waiting!!
Gord says
Surely someone is overseeing that it’s run correctly I haven’t been paid it’s £1000 so it’s not a few pounds and Kirsty stott is saying that they can’t just add a random payment to the list
Sara (Debt Camel) says
No-one is overseeing this.
Every large administration/Scheme that I have seen has ended up with a small number of payment problems. These are usually resolved in the end. I know that is little consolation to you at the moment and I understand why you are stressed.
Gord says
They should not be allowed to run the scheme they weren’t fit to run a company
Sara (Debt Camel) says
And I would agree but once the Scheme was voted for that is it.
Gord says
I have now contacted FCA today they logged everything and gave me a referance number also advised to contact financial ombudsman as the lack of communication and still being told only yesterday that even if appeal still with adjudicator you are still being paid I’m still waiting on my payment
Pol says
Has anyone received a refund from lowell for overpayment?
Laura says
No. I’ve been wondering about this as they never took their payment from me at the beginning of the month, I have had no email (I’ve been checking my junk mail as well) or letter from them to say its been written off and that they will be paying back any monies owed. I’m considering phoning them but by what I’ve read on here they are quite rude and I can’t deal with people like that as it makes my anxiety go through the roof.
Toni says
No, I am giving them a month before I ring to see if I get a cheque from them first
Angela Lang says
I rang the other day and they said that they had written the debt off as a goodwill gesture and as they owned the debt they do not need to refund
Robert says
Still no cheque yet so phoned yesterday to enquire as checked portal before phoning and no update! Today magically letter appears with payment amount on portal and yet is dated 14/7/22 and still no cheque arrives.!
Dominic says
Hi Robert.
Just to say similar happened here. I haven’t ever called but I’ve checked the portal every single day for weeks now. Today the payment amount / covering letter for the cheque appeared in the portal, backdated to 14th July.
As strange as it let’s hope that this means that cheque dispatch and credit profile updates (if applicable) are now imminent.
Louise says
Hi,
Just wondering if anybody has had a similar experience to me. My claim was upheld in part but they had missed my GLO loan off the calculations. This was sent to an adjudicator who has upheld my claim. I haven’t heard anything since but adjudicators decision and I am unable to send a message on the portal. Does anyone have any alternative contact details for them?
Thanks
Robert says
Yes really annoyed as same happended with settlement checked portal often then letter appeared about loans agreed but dated at a time when I had looked and it had not been on portal by the time it was on portal you could no longer update bank details so due to their incompetence I have been forced to wait for a cheque!
Gord says
Contact joe.sweeney@provident.co.uk
Louise says
Thank you!
Keith H says
My Cheque dated 13/7/22 arrived today let’s hope it doesn’t bounce
Dorabelle says
☹ mine too pittance
Lorraine says
Mine too absolutely shocking £48.81 !!!
Steven says
Just wondering how many of you have had your credit files updated already?
Mine never defaulted but I do have late payment markers that I am waiting for them to remove before I submit a mortgage application
Tink85 says
Some of my upheld loans have been removed, two with late oyment markers that were upheld are still showing, hopefully they will all be removed soon.
Steven says
Thanks @Tink85
Were the ones that have been removed defaulted?
I’m just wondering if they’re leaving the ones with just late payment markers and not removing them
Sara (Debt Camel) says
they should be removing them if there are late payment markers. If they don’t then try this in a couple of months time: https://debtcamel.co.uk/correct-credit-records-lender-administration/
Tink85 says
Hi, I didn’t have any defaulted. They had late payment markers, more recent ones still haven’t been removed yet though, I’m hoping this isn’t an error and they will all be removed soon.
Steven says
Hi @Tink85
Both my loans with missed payment markers have now been removed from experian aswel, just waiting on transunion to do the same
Thanks
Adeva says
Mine are still showing on TransUnion, not heard of anyone having them removed from TransUnion yet.
Ashlee says
FINALLY got a reply back from lowell confirming my accounts have been closed. This is after emails back and forth since my claims were upheld. It doesn’t mention any refund for overpayment since August 2021 but if I’m honest, I don’t care. 1 step closing to being debt free! If they haven’t written off your account (or offset it etc) then please argue, its taken me this long and I finally got the outcome I wanted and feel I deserved.
Terri says
Hi just wondering if anyone has had any luck with lowell solicitors accounts being cleared/reduced? I have 2 letters from provident stating as of August 2021 lowell agreed to wipe my debt and refund any money owed, the most recent letter states that this is still the case and any problems to contact lowell but they are claiming that provident have never contacted them about my account and I still have to pay….. I have contacted provident and told them about this but they email back saying the scheme ends in July 2022 so not much help as to what I can do about it.
Robert says
Also got mine at last dated 14/7
Leanne says
I don’t know if this will further help anyone. I have contacted Lowell solicitors via email explaining the situation as my ccj had not been removed nor had I been refunded overpayments. I provided both letters received from the scheme and asked them to look in to it for me. I have revived a reply today to let me know the judgment is under review and they have also cancelled my direct debit. I know a few people have phoned them with little help so thought I would share
Christine says
Hi what email address did you use to contact them as all I get on there website is a phone number and sick of there rudeness and threatening behaviour when I phone them.
Lucy says
Did you get a final letter from provi? Did anyone?
I’m still waiting for it because I don’t know what they upheld so I can ask Lowell to take action.
Christine says
I did but was just basically telling me of my final payment, I compared all the loans deemed unaffordable against the account lowell bought, from my 1st portal letter in may from provident, I’m still fighting lowell solicitors regarding this debt even though my final letter from provident stated
What impact does this have on my sold debt?
Your account was purchased by LOWELL.
They have agreed to reduce the balance and any over payment due back, will be refunded by them.
They are still refusing to accept this so I have emailed them today as when i phone them they are rude and abrupt, saying if not sorted I will be seeking advice from the financial ombudsman.
Lucy says
Christine
Sorry to ask but did the letter from provident say it was the final letter?
Because by the sound of it you got the same worded letter regarding Lowell as I did.
As I mentioned before I was told by 2 provident customer service reps (one emailed the other told me on the phone) that that isn’t the final letter. That I am to wait for a final lettter.
Because the letter you are describing here was sent as the payments were sent out as a reciept of payment and at the top it should read final outcome or final statement or final letter apparrently.
Lucy says
This is what they sent in email:
Thank you for your email.
Please allow 10-14 days to receive the final outcome.
Kind regards,
Bhavna Parekh

No it dosent actually mention it’s a final outcome letter it is just conformation of my payment, I just assumed that was the final outcome letter And didn’t expect another,
well If lowell are refusing to refund any payments made since last august I will be cancelling my direct debit too them as I’m obviously paying just for the sake of it i will be phoning them again tomorrow to be spoken to like I’m a sandwich short of a picnic!!! And more than likely threatened with legal action!! Why have provident told us payments to Lowell/ Lowell solicitors would be refunded when it dosent look like they will be it seems to be Lowell’s get out “ it’s our debt now not providents”!!!
Ashlee says
I got nowhere phoning them so instead I emailed, daily 😂 sent them screenshots of the emails from provident, sent them the redress letter etc, constantly quoting provident emails. No refund for overpayment but I’m yet to see anyone get one, my debt was cleared “due to the circumstances”, more likely to stop me harassing them mind.

Hi Sarah
I know you mentioned a bit back that we could possibly get a “top up” payment, does this have to be made before the scheme ends at the end of this month, or would it be paid after? Or is it a case how “how long is a piece of string” if you get my drift :)
Thank you
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I think we would have heard before now if there was going to be any more.

Roly says
I have still not received either bank payment, cheque or response to any emails (to standard scheme email and to Joe Sweeney) as to why my husband received his redress weeks ago, and I’ve heard nothing at all. From other posts here, it seems like this scheme has been really badly managed. Hope those who haven’t had their funds through yet do get them soon.
Roly says
Finally got an email back, assuring me I have been forgotten – but have to admit didn’t feel particularly reassured by it.
Roly says
Funds in bank today, but still no confirmation email or final breakdown in portal of how much it was due to be. Hope others get theirs soon.

Hi I am in the same position, was told that my money would be in my account by Friday and yet again it didn’t arrive. I am now being told that I was initially issued 2 scheme ID’s and these need to be unlinked before any payment can be made. Getting worried now as this is the last week that we can contact anyone.
Mary says
We are still awaiting for ours
Kizzyo says

Kizzyo says
Thanks not just me then!!!
I’ve given up phoning as they are SO rude so sent emails to both lowell&lowell solicitors about two weeks ago and still Had no acknowledgment from them and my account unfortunately still live online and a repayment due again in a few days!!!
Christine says
Just again contacted lowell solicitors regarding account they purchased from provident which was deemed unaffordable but still having absolutely none of it still saying they have heard ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from provident and they still own account and account is still live and needs repaying, and I needed to contact provident regarding this issue for a resolution which I did immediately, provident said lowell have agreed providents findings the debt was deemed unaffordable and any overpayments would be refunded by lowell as what was said in my letter confirming my redress payment, and now the issue was now NO longer providents problem and I needed to contact lowell solicitors regarding it, had enough now passed from pillar to post with no resolution contacted lowell rather than lowell solicitors lady I spoke to was SO helpful and I’ve put in a complaint this is ridiculous.
Kim Northcott says
Still no cheque 27/07/2022 is it ever going to arrive 😕
J Scott says
Same here, infact lowell couldn’t even give me the loan agreements they have purchased just that it was 2 loans totalling 6390 and I owed 4730. So I said here is my redress showing lowell being mentioned within it and that I had contactes provident for the agreement numbers they had sent to lowell because id no one can tell me then lowell cannot provide evidence of the debt being owed and I would be seeking advice on whether I legally need to be paying it as lowell can’t provide actual details on what they, are charging me for. I then got an email from provident saying the email is closed. Yet I had already contacted provident before that email and had a response saying I was to wait after July to see. I’m a little bit annoyed. So I still owe lowell everything as they “purchased the debts in 2015” but I’m not sure how legally they can ask for money they can’t provide agreement numbers on the debt, else anybody could. Just say owe this perosn ows us money we want it sell it without providing the evidence and then money would be unorovenly owed, not sure but it doesn’t sound legal if the debt agency doesn’t even know what they are chasing you for fully just 2 unpaid loans without agreement numebees sounds a bit dodgy to me.?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Have you asked for CCA agreement for the debt? See https://debtcamel.co.uk/ask-cca-agreement-for-debt/. That explains exactly how to ask for this. Use the template letter linked to, do not make up your own wording in an email.
If Lowell cannot produce a true copy of the agreement then it is unenforceable in court and you do not have to pay it.
NB this does NOT apply if there is already a CCJ for the debt. Then the creditor does not have to produce the agreement when asked.
