The administration of WDFC, the legal company who operated the Wonga brand, was completed in August 2020.
The company was finally dissolved in December 2020.
See Companies House records for details.
Background to the administration – rising complaint numbers
A payday loan is “unaffordable” if repaying meant you had to get into more debt, by borrowing again or getting behind on bills or other debts. So you may have repaid all your loans but still have a good claim for a refund of the interest you paid.
When Wonga went under there were over 200,000 people with current loans from Wonga – many of them had a good case for the interest to be removed from their balance so they only repay what they borrowed.
The Administrators proposals set out the reasons why Wonga went into administration. These were the increasing number of affordability complaints, especially from Claims Companies, and the decision by the Financial Ombudsman that FOS could look at loans over 6 years old, going back to 2007.
There were 24,000 affordability complaints awaiting a decision by Wonga and 9,500 complaints against Wonga with the Financial Ombudsman when Wonga ceased trading on 30 August 2018.
Details on the Administration
The Administrators have made various progress reports (available from Companies House) and statements during 2018-20:
- in October 2018, the Administrators published their Proposals, detailing how they planned to handle the administration. Creditors voted to approve these Proposals.
- progress report to end February 2019;
- Witness Statement in April 2019;
- progress report to end August 2019.
An online claim page was set up in April 2019 for Wonga customers to submit claims for refunds. The deadline for sending in a claim was 30 September 2019.
The Administrators assessed all claims using an automated tool. This took account of:
- all loans, including those over 6 years old
- how large a loan was compared to a customer’s income;
- how often someone borrowed without significant gaps;
- whether there were indications of hardship such as missed payments;
- if there is a balance outstanding for the right of set-off.
Where it decided one or more loans were unaffordable, it calculated how much interest should be refunded and added statutory interest at 8%.
In August 2019 the Administrators starting sending emails to people saying whether their claims have been successful or rejected.
In September, the Administrators sent an update on progress up to end August 2019. Key points include:
- at end August, 389,621 claims for unaffordable payday lending have been accepted by the administrators;
- the total value of these claims is c £460million – an average of c £1,200 a claim.
- £23m of outstanding loans have been collected. The Administrators say that outstanding loans are being taken into account and given the right of set-off where the customer has a claim for unaffordable loans.
- The remaining loan book will not be sold to a debt collector.
At this point the Administrators were saying that payments would be made by 30 January 2020.
29 January 2020 – administrators announce 4.3p in the pound
On 29 January 2020, the Wonga administrators announced that they will be paying 4.3p in the pound to unsecured creditors, including all the 400,000 people who are owed a refund for unaffordable lending.
The administrators have now given the final numbers:
- they assessed 401,202 claims as being valid;
- of these 358,129 are being paid 4.3% of their assessed compensation value;
- the remaining 43,073 also owed a balance on a loan to wonga, so their compensation has been used to clear or reduce that balance.
What happens next:
- the money should be paid within the next 4 weeks. This has come as a surprise as people had been told it would be paid by the end of January;
- the loans that are being refunded should be removed from your credit record in the next 6 weeks.
My comment – ripped off by Wonga and now let down by the regulators
The administrators told people they would get “significantly less” than that amount as there would not be enough money to pay the claims in full.
But many people will have been hoping for more than 4.3% and are very upset.
It is not the administrators’ fault there is so little money to be divided between so many people. It is the fault of the regulators – first the OFT and then the FCA – that they allowed Wonga to break the rules saying that affordability should be checked
And now the regulators have failed to ensure that these Wonga victims get the compensation they should have. When a PPI firm went under, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme stepped in and people with PPI claims got paid in full. But the FCA has not extended the FSCS to cover payday lenders.
This isn’t just a problem for the hundreds of thousands of Wonga victims. Borrowers from many payday lenders have been unable to get proper compensation after the lender has had to close. This will apply to QuickQuid, the money shop, Payday UK and Payday Express borrowers as well.
The FCA needs to rethink this and provide a safety net for people who were mis-sold unaffordable loans.
Readers comments – Shock and disappointment
This a brief overview of the hundreds of comments below this article.
Some people are happy to be getting anything:
- “I am only getting just shy of £25 but for the sake of completing a 30 second form it’s not too bad.”
- “I will be getting £79.93 of the £1854.17 I was owed. Better than nothing!”
- “£35 out of a possible £800. I wasn’t expecting much anyway. I’m more interested in having the 25 wonga loans removed from my credit file.”
The administrators had said people would get “significantly less” than the claim, but many people were hoping for at least 10%:
- “I got mine £88.67 – claim was £2057.05 – I was expecting at least a couple hundred.”
- “Claim was 3034, getting 130. By considerably less I didn’t think it would be over 95% of it. That is ridiculous.”
- “To receive £44.10 from a claim of £1023.00 is insulting to be honest.”
- “Owed £1499, getting £63…what an absolute joke!”
- “4.3% is an absolute disgrace. Although people are trying to be positive they shouldn’t have to. The people who made all the profit here would spend the biggest payout anyone has received on an evening out and not think twice about it.”
- “Gutted…. was hoping for at least the 10% speculated.”
This reader blamed not just Wonga but the regulators:
- “Over £11k accepted reduced down to £480 – my job, my marriage and 4 years of desperation followed by years of rebuilding my life – that’s what the regulators consider that to be worth! Shame on everyone involved in Wonga and the lack of regulation of lenders like them !”
Some are just are delighted that Wonga has gone under:
- “Heads up everyone…We have won in the end! They can no longer be a hindrance to any of us any more!”
- “Mines going to charity. Best thing to have happened is for them to have gone bust”
- ”Thank you Wonga you paid me to continue gambling, I lost everything. Good riddance.”
Many people are also disappointed and shocked that they aren’t being paid by the end of January. Some people getting these refunds are still in difficult financial circumstances and had planned to use the money to pay a bill or some debts.
February 2020 – some clarifications from the administrators
The remaining loans
The administrators have confirmed that no further payments are being accepted and the debts will not be sold to a debt collector. So you don’t have to worry about being taken to court or bailiffs.
But the debts are not technically being written off. They will remain on your credit record for 6 years from the default date on your credit record. If you don’t know what this date is, I suggest you check it now.
In practice, now the company in liquidation, if you contact a credit reference agency and say your Wonga debt is incorrect, you can ask the credit reference agency to “suppress” the record as Wonga can no longer say what the right entry should be. See How to correct credit records if the lender has gone under for details.
No deductions are being made for tax
The Administrators have said:
“the Joint Administrators have agreed with HMRC that the payment may be treated for tax purposes as set wholly against the interest and fees element first, and statutory interest second. As a result, where the distribution paid by the administrators to each customer does not exceed the interest and fees claimed by them, no withholding tax will be required to be deducted at source from payments made by the administrators in such cases.”
The simple version of this is:
- the administrators are not taking off any tax.
- there will, therefore, be no tax to have to reclaim.
- the vast majority of people will not have to pay any tax on any part of of the refund even if you are a higher rate taxpayer. The amounts don’t have to be declared if you complete an annual tax return eg if you are self-employed.
A small number of extra payments
A small number of customers were owed money by Wonga for a different reason, for example they may have overpaid on a loan. These extra amounts are also being paid out and you will get 4.3% of them too.
If you were not using a claims company, you should have received a single email at the end of January which mentions both amounts.
If you were using a claims company you should have received two emails, each about one of the amounts. If you have only received one email and it mentions a claim which is smaller than the amount you expected, you can contact the administrators, it may be this is the “extra” payment.
Bank account issues
I asked the Administrators why some people are still getting emails asking them to update their bank details. They say:
These emails will be in response to customers’ requests received by the Customer Care team prior to 29 January 2020 providing a secure method by which customers can update their bank account details. Customers should respond to these emails.
I asked the Administrators what will happen if they make a payment and it bounces back to them because the account is no longer open. They say:
Where updated information is available from customers we will attempt to reprocess bounced dividend payments via electronic transfer. Alternatively, we will issue a cheque to the address held on file.
A blogger contacted the Administrators on the 14th February to ask why she hadn’t been paid and was told:
“I can confirm that the joint administrators have commenced distribution of dividend payments to unsecured creditors, including those with redress claims. Given the volume of transactions that need to now take place, the administrators cannot guarantee an exact date when individuals will receive payment but are aiming to complete transactions within the next two weeks.”
February and March – payments started but with problems
I was told by the Administrators on Friday 28th February that 90%+ of payments have been made and they expect to make the rest of payments over the next two weeks by BACS. About 22,000 the following week, about 13,000 the week after. It looks as though the 22,000 group got their money. It’s not clear to me how many of the 13,000 group have.
Many people in the comments below this article were reporting probems. These included people whose bank accounts had never changes. Problems included:
- confusion over whether a claims company has been paid or they will be;
- Wongasaid payment was sent to a claims firm that hadn’t been used;
- Wonga said a cheque was sent to a house you no longer live it;
- Wonga said a payment has been made to your bank account but it hasn’t arrived ;
- Wonga has said a payment was sent to an old bank account despite new bank account details having been given and co0nfirmed as having been received.
On 2 March the Administrators said the payment process was taking longer than expected and payments would continue to about 40,000 people over the next 2 weeks:
The Joint Administrators have now attempted to make dividend payments to over 410,000 creditors… In addition to the payments that were not made we have had approximately 40,000 payments returned to us due to incorrect customer bank details recorded on file with Wonga. We will now begin contacting these customers whose payments were returned, by email, to obtain correct and up-to-date bank account details.
The dividend payment process is taking longer than anticipated and payments will continue to be paid during the next two weeks.
On 19 March the Admistrator’s announced:
The Joint Administrators have now attempted to make dividend payments to over 443,000 creditors representing 98% of the creditor population. This includes payments to creditors whose payments were briefly held back from the initial payment phase whilst additional validation checks were completed to new bank account and/or address details that were provided. The Joint Administrators now continue to focus on the remaining small population of unpaid dividends in order to complete the payment process.
From here on progress was very slow, impeded by lockdown.
End August 2020 – administration ends – do you still have a problem?
Have you not been paid?
The Administrators final report blames the payment problems of Wonga’s poor systems and on creditors who did not update their bank details when requested to. But as many comments below detail, people who had never changed their bank account or who had updated their bank details several times and had each confirmed also experienced prolonged delays.
At 28 Auguest when the administration ended, there were still c 49,000 payments with a total value of £632,000 that had not been made – an average about of £13 per payment. About 70% of these were for amounts owed before the administration, so not affordability complaints.
The Administrators have passed the £632,000 to the Insolvency Service. If any creditors want to claim an unpaid amount, they should email CustomerServicesEAS@Insolvency.gov.uk.
A problem with your credit record
If there is a problem with your credit record then you now need to contact the Credit Reference Agency where the problem is showing – Experian, Equifax or TransUnion. Say you can no longer get an answer from the administrators as the firm has been dissolved so you would like the CRA to “suppress” the credit records (list them) as they are inaccurate.
This problem could have been an error by the administrators, who failed to delete the record. It could be an error by Wonga before the administration: the loan date or balance or default date is wrong – you want the default date to be as early as possible so it drops off sooner – or Wonga may have failed to add a default date.
If the CRA refuses, send the CRA a formal complaint and this can be sent to the Financial Ombudsman. In practice people are getting these sorted with the CRAs without having to go to the ombudsman.
Jack says
So… I just got through to them. Note that I was on hold for 1 hour and 12 minutes so if you are planning on calling them this is how long it will take to get through.
-Customers will be notified by email this week (may not be today specifically).
-The payment process will start this FRIDAY, but that does not 100% mean payment will be in peoples accounts by Friday. The process can take 1-5 days depending on who the customer banks with and assuming all the bank details match the customers name.
a says
Oh Nice i will not get much at all my accepted claim value was £35 :D
Andy says
Thanks Jack.
That’s good and bad. Good that there is signs soon but the bad is if they only start payments on a Friday then you effectively lose two days (weekend) unfortunately as banks do not usually process such things over weekends. Or they never used to. In a “modern world” it is probably time they did though imo.
Let’s hope it’s reasonably quick to clear. I’m not complaining. All the best everyone :)
Gary says
Thanks jack not heard anything at all at least its some news
Sara says
I only came across mine by scrolling through old emails . It told me the amount but no one will be getting that amount it will be significantly less or none at all . Also an email to update bank details which I managed to do but also rang them to make sure they had received them . Can I also ask why do people think we are getting an email today ?
Jo says
Because when I spoke to Wonga (and others have been told the same) the administrators will be issuing a final email W/C 27th January to confirm exactly what your payment will be before it hits your account.
So not necessarily receiving an email today, so may, some may not – but everybody will be emailed at some point DURING W/C 27th January.
William says
did you get through when you rang? I’ve tried 3 or four times in the past month and given up after half an hour or so.
Nicholas says
I had a claim upheld and accepted. I haven’t received anything about updating bank details though and noone seems to be getting back to me. Does this mean my claim hasn’t been accepted?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
No, if you had the email from the administrators saying they were upholding your complaint for some of your loans, you will be getting a payout.
Emma says
I’ve had an email asking for my bank details again after originally submitting them and had no acknowledgement. I’ve tried ringing Wonga to make sure they’ve got the correct details but I can never get through. At the time and date of this message i’ve been on hold for nearly 1 hr 30 minutes. Their customer service on this is a disgrace.
Melanie says
If your details have changed and they still have old bank details your moneys will be paid to that acc or at least attempt to. If you dont update them by a certain time you wont receive payment. My partner had to apply for a link so he could change details which he has now done
Yasmin says
Thanks for the update :) no matter how much we recieve back it’s more than we thought we’d get, I never expected anything so any amount to me is a bonus… Hope everyone has a good week and is well. Best of luck to everyone on their claims.
Claire T says
I rang them on the 20th January after 3 emails had not been answered, the first one being sent on the 10th January when I got the email with incorrect bank details. It took me an hour to get through and when I did they said they would send me a secure link to update my account details. I am still waiting for the secure link and have emailed them again, customer service is awful. So even if they do pay me out it wont be going in to my bank account. Annoyingly though the first email I received prior to this about a month before had my correct bank details. Don’t know what they’re are playing at!!!
MJ says
No email today as of yet
My claim is £2,467.68 after tax and based in 5%wouild be lucky to get £100 but still enough to buy a Greg’s sandwich I suppose 🥪

As we await the Wonga outcome, my claim is worth £16,000 and I’m expecting 7% (guess), I would like to take this opportunity to thank sara for giving me the knowledge/courage to stand up to these thieves who ruinied my finances for 4 years.
I got payouts from sunny, quick quid (just in time) , myjar, 118 money, and all remaining balances wiped out, the only ones not to play ball were satsuma, so I sent it to ombudsman, but they seem to be not complying with anybody and blatantly dragging out at every stage, so will see what happens, they are double quick to chase up a late payment though. All the best to everyone, and thanks again sara for getting me back on track.
Mark
Takethatmad says
I’ve read so many comments saying “I’ve rang them and they said……” All been told different things. It’s making my head hurt reading conflicting information. We will see…
Richard says
Hey Mark.
I saw your comment about complaining to my jar and sunny. Could I kindly ask you the process you went through and what you wrote and said to these companies to help myself along this path also.
Kind Regards. Richard.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Hi Richard – template letters for complaints to Myjar & Sunny are here: https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/
Hazel Black says
Hi I was wondering how you went about the other companies ? I wouldn’t mind not even getting money back just to have them wiped from my credit report ?
Thanks in advance
Hazel
Clare says
Hi Hazel
Like Mark, I also got payouts from the same companies under the banner of ‘irresponsible lending’. Because I put complaints in to so many at one time I used the Resolver website as it stores all your ‘cases’ for you so you don’t have to worry about saving emails etc.
Good luck!
Clare
Ashley says
Hi mark, did u just use the template and email from this page for Myjar?
Thanks

How did you go about your 118 loan ive had quite a big loan off them & the interest is horrendous im literally paying double back

Dave C says
Does anyone know whether interest was collected from customers after the administrators were appointed that they then had to refund? Surely they should never have collected those payments if by collecting them it caused customers to lose out? Or did they stop collecting?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
They carried on collecting loans unless a borrower made a fuss and said they shouldn’t pay because they had an affordability complaint.
Timka says
I am just grateful for this page to read what people say and not feel like the only duck in the pond. :)
Vanessa says
It just isn’t acceptable that at this point people some of whom are owed 5 figure sums still don’t know what they will receive. Information is power and Grant Thornton have abused this power. If a response /complaint can be organised over Wonga. Grant Thornton’s conduct should also be looked at as I refuse to believe at this point just a few days before they are due to pay out that they don’t know the percentage people will be paid.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Their legal duty is to distribute as much as possible to the creditors. Not to run a consumer-friendly information service.
Annonymous says
[edited] Grant Thornton’s role is to ensure the lawful and legal run down and distribution of assets of Wonga. We are creditors to that business as will many others beyond those seeking redress. It isn’t for them to run themselves into the ground handling queries over and above the information they have supplied. I for one would prefer they put all their time and effort into recovering debts and maximising the funds they can then distribute to creditors. Grant Thornton are merely dealing appropriately with the shut down of Wonga. They are not a personal advice bureau.
Vanessa says
Grant Thornton are a firm of accountants and they will know the percentage by now. Also this isn’t a typical administration case. The unsecured creditors in this are vulnerable people preyed on by an unscrupulous company using an unscrupulous business model. Grant Thornton knew that when they took the job and they could have handled this better. I don’t expect any empathy but regular, accurate updates shouldn’t have been beyond them.
I hope this whole issue of unscrupulous lenders doesn’t just go away because everyone of us will have a personal story of the nightmare we got ourselves into. Just to feed my children in my case. We can’t be complacent this shouldn’t happen to other people. I wouldn’t want any other family to go through what we went through.
Annonymous says
This absolutely a typical case there is nothing unusual about it. You are trying to make out that those of us with redress owing are any different from any other creditor be it a gas company, a small business or someone they owed rent to.
Every administration is difficult and tough, small businesses close and people are made redundant as a knock on effect of other companies going into administration. Sensitivity surrounds every administration. This is no different.
They cannot provide “regular updates” because it will always be a moving feast, and they are highly regulated as to what they can and cannot do. There primary and only goal is to realise the maximum assets possible from Wonga and then distribute that amongst the creditors. Any small piece of information can jeopardise that process.
Gary Mac says
still waiting for an email to change my bank details, spent an hour on the phone last week, 10 days after receiving an email stating that they would send me a link to change them speaking to an extremely rude south african woman. tbh i wish i never received an email about this whole thing in the first place, its just been one hell of a headache for £35.

How do you know it was 35 quid?

Still not had an email saying how much of the money owed I will be receiving has anyone received there email yet??
Chriss Cook says
Just to join in I have been on the phone to wonga /administrators. I have been informed payouts will start being sent from the 29th Januaryand will continue and all should be payed by the 17th February.
I understand everyone’s frustration as I took complaint out 4 years ago I was stupid enough to use a company to do this they have been absolutely useless. If I’d done this all myself I would of received a payment of £4448.00. I’m now looking at receiving a payment of around £200 of which this company who I used will take 30%
Vanessa says
Emails sent from the 29th or payments sent?
Chriss says
Payments to be made
Vanessa says
Okay let’s hope they get their act together soon then!
Julia walker says
Hey thank you for the update. They seem to be extending the time off pay out as timing draws closer!!
By Friday we all be paid out in June 😂
Timbouk says
I would be disappointed if payments were staggered out until 17th Feb ( unless this refers to payouts to accounts with incorrect bank details etc). There is no reason why payments can’t be made at once as far as I am aware.
Ryan Herbert says
I’m pretty sure Sara (dept camel) said there not allowed to go past January as they already had an extention. 4 weeks from redress email to payout. They have had 8 weeks now which includes the 4 week extension. I’m sure I read that on here
Tony says
I feel for ya, the ombudsman took months and months to process mine (I too made my complaint years ago) then Wonga folded and the rest is history.
Chriss Cook says
Did you send complaint out yourself or use a company like me. I’m now in process for compensation from the company I’ve gone to fos and explained situation and how useless they where with dealing with me complaint. Probably will not get anything but might shake up the company’s that jumped on the band wagon.
Tony says
I filled it out myself. Gawd know why but the omnbudsman just took ages picking my complaint up despite me chasing
Paul says
Well there you have it the 27th of January is nearly over, and not one person has received a email off the administrators…. well there’s a surprise!! lol
Jess says
Wonga STILL haven’t emailed me back regarding changing my bank details – its been over 3 weeks and no reply. When i ring through im waiting an hour then it says call failed. How do i get someone to reply with a link – its a simple request. Help – as the payout is v soon and this will be going further as ive emailed plenty of times before with no response
Chris says
I haven’t got this link either so you are not alone. Emailed request twice. You will get the redress though but it just might be a bit delayed.
Klara says
Jess this is frustrating. Hope someone more knowledgeable will contact you today
Alastair says
Just log into your account and change the bank details. No need to wait.
How do I change my bank details?
You can change your bank details by logging in to my account and heading to the ‘payment details’ section.
These details can only be updated if you don’t have a live loan
Carina says
It is not possible to log in. Please try it!
Sam says
This does not work for a lot of people. I got a message saying something like ‘your account is on hold please call customer services’
Barry says
I just got mine with link this morning
Scott says
Hi all,
I understand everyone’s frustration with waiting to be told what they will be receiving but why are people continually phoning up for updates?
The administrators are not doing this job for free and every call and email that they receive will incur a fee increasing the amount that they will receive from the pot.
This will inturn decrease the pot available to unsecured creditors.
The amounts that people will be receiving will not be life changing so why not just all sit back and await your email.
There is also little point asking whether someone has received their email as I am sure that the second someone gets theirs, there will be a post regarding the percentage.
Wonga has caused people endless amounts of stress over the years and now people are causing stress to themselves by fretting over their awaited email for what may just be a pittance of an amount.
It will all be over soon.
Scott
Lynne says
Well said Scott. I guess some of us are more impatient than others and it feels we’ve already waited such a long time, it’s not so much the payment we’ re annoyed at, it’s the not knowing the figure! Well I,’m really expecting an email, the reason being the email address I had when I used Wonga is no longer available to me so I rang them to give them my new one but I wasn’t entirely convinced he was making a note of it lol.
Barry says
I couldn’t care less if I don’t get an email and some point this week a few bob lands in my account
Danny says
what ever I get will be a blessing at mo thay caused me years of debt I am just glad everyone on here will get something back not as much as we were all hopeing to be geting. some is better than none
Steve says
Exactly, there will be nothing left at this rate. People stressing is completely pointless.
Lindsay says
Its not people just phoning for updates – its people trying to confirm bank details so that they actually get the payment.
For example I had my bank details confirmed but then received an email saying they were not on file (hopefully this email was an error but who knows). Some people on here have been trying to even get the link to update their details, some are trying to confirm what is on file, some have got the same email as me when their details have been updated already.
I have emailed over the last 2 weeks, but there has been absolutely no reply, so I imagine that is why people in the same or similar situation as me are trying to phone and confirm. I have taken the view that I wont ring (mainly because I haven’t got a spare hour to sit on the phone and because I am hoping the second email was an error) and just hoping for the best, but I can also emphasise with others if they do not know what is going on.
I agree there’s no point in ringing and asking for the %, but bear in mind the situation is different for everyone in terms of what communication they have had from Wonga ie the situation with their bank details being confirmed etc and a lot of people are in the dark.
Also everyone’s situation is different and while it may not be a life saving amount, the small amount could still help people.
Scott says
Hi Lindsay,
I totally agree that some people will need to call for good reason and that is to be expected.
What I was commenting on is the amount of comments where people had called constantly asking for an update or details of the expected percentage.
And yes the small amount may be beneficial to a lot of people but reducing their payout with constant calls isn’t going to help them, is it?
Samantha Jackson says
I changed my bank details online and logged in again to check they had updated but received the e-mail asking me to update them. The guy I spoke to said that if they were the new details on my account when i logged in then it was fine, i then received another e-mail about sending in proof of account – photo of bankcard or statement and rang up again I could no longer log in online.
I was told that because there are so many claims it would be hard to pick out all the people that hadn’t update bank details so the e-mail was sent to everyone.
i am just frustrated at not knowing the amount. I also got into lots of debt by using Wonga for a small amount which escalated to the point that i nearly lost my house at Christmas. Whatever I get will go towards mortgage arrrears.
Claim was valued at £1350 and I would have been happy to get £500 but after reading all the comments I have no idea what i will end up with.
Andyy says
It may be a tiny sum in some cases but for some people who are still struggling for one reason or another, knowing when and receiving say a £20 or so payout could make all the difference. :)

Very true. I spent a bit more than i should at xmas thinking i had a little recompense coming. It seems not, but i’ll survive. Some people will be really stressed over this and i feel for them. We’ve all been there and the Wonga vultures took full advantage.
Michelle says
Sorry, I’m probably going to infuriate most of you. Let me start by saying that I am also waiting for an email confirmation and a deposit into my bank account. I think of this as an absolute bonus, whatever I receive. Many people complaining about Wonga’s irresponsible lending. I get that BUT at the time, how desperate were you? We were all aware of the interest we would be paying. The Wonga website was clear and upfront AT the time, we NEEDED that money. No-one else was going to help us out. We all had a choice.
Sngfish says
No. You are incorrect. They irresponsibly lended
Scott says
Hi Michelle/sngfish
I agree with you both, there were cases of irresponsible lending but not in all cases.
I can’t recall any instance where I checked FOS complaint data and found a 100% uphold rate so some lending must have been done responsibly.
Michelle, you have hit it on the head, people were aware but still went ahead. This recent comment on trustpilot sums it up I think-
“Apply for a loan after 2 previous loans and been declined 3 times since think the company is a joke ! Keep telling me try again in 30 days ! Don’t think so …. will take this to ombudsman for unaffordable previous loans”
If they had of got the loan, unaffordable as it would have been judging on the comments, they would have been happy. But because they were refused after an affordability check, they want to raise a complaint.
We all have choices and are forewarned and we make the choices.
Scott
warrenT says
Hi there,
Does anyone know what the position is with wongas corporate insurances? For example, if wonga has Professional Indemnity insurance, could there be a claim raised against wongas professional indemnity insurers?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Wonga would have had to make any claim, not a customer. The directors would have considered that before deciding they had no option but to go bust.
warrenT says
My understanding is that if a customer chose to sue wonga for causing them financial loss due to a negligent act in mis-selling a 𝚕𝚘𝚊𝚗, wongas professional indemnity (PI) insurers could help to pay out any valid compensation claims. Wonga being liquidated wouldn’t necessarily mean that the PI insurance wouldn’t pay out- it would depend on the policy operative time.
I would expect grant thornton already considered this though- and PI isn’t a compulsory insurance, maybe wonga didn’t have this.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
You can’t take legal action against a firm in administration.
Scott says
Also professional indemnity insurance wouldn’t apply in this instance as they wouldn’t have it.
PI insurance is for the likes of surveyors, solicitors, doctors etc and not a loan company.
warrenT says
Not necessarily, PI insurance can be taken out by any entity that offers financial services. Not sure if wonga had it though, I doubt I’d want to insure a payday lender for professional indemnity if I was an insurer to be honest. Payday lenders aren’t known for having fair lending practices so the risk of a negligent act is likely higher.
I wonder if even the Directors’ and officers’ insurances would be relevant (again dont I know if wonga has this). A legal opinion would be helpful, I think the administrators could permit a legal action to be taken against wonga if it meant that wongas insurers could step in. Hopefully this has all already been considered though !
Scott says
Hi WarrenT,
Wonga were not a Financial Institution such as a IFA or any other form that gave advice and therefore PI insurance would not have been applicable to then.
Do you not think that if there had been a way to sue them, then some CMC or Solicitors firm would have been doing this?
Whilst I understand you searching for avenues to get your full redress, such unfounded comments only make to fuel a fire that only builds people’s hopes only for them to be doused out.
WarrenT says
Hi Scott,
An entity that offers financial services is able to take out professional indemnity insurance.
It would be foolish to assume a legal firm would step in to offer assistance, there is always merit in ordinary creditors considering all options available instead of leaving it to the solicitors and administrators- we wouldn’t all be on here if these firms were reliable. I haven’t saw any reference to PI or D & O anywhere in grant Thornton’s documents. I’m going to wait until the settlements start to come through and I’ll ask administrators for comment on the above points. Always worth a try rather than leaving it to someone else to manage for us
Scott says
Hi warrenT,
As a person that worked as an Underwriter at Lloyds of London for 20 years, I bow to your expert knowledge of Insurance.
If a legal firm thought they could make a quick buck then they would step in. Think indesit tumble dryers and vw emissions and you’ll get my drift.
The administrators are reliable and everyone is in here to find out more about what is going on and once things are sorted then you will know what you are getting for definite and when.
At no point in your relationship did you discuss options with Wonga in respect of your finances, you filled in an online form an an algorithm told the computer to say yes or no.
Don’t hold your breath for an answer to any question you may wish to ask the administrator’s after you get a payment as I assume they will be dismissed.
As I said before, had there been an option this would have been followed up.
Jake Dawson says
Hi.
Am I right in thinking they told us we would get an email on 27th detailing the amount each person would receive at end of January or did I just dream that?
Thanks
Jake
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Some people heard emails would go out from the 27th. That doesn’t actually mean they will start on the 27th, but everyone was hoping that they would.
Sngfish says
Ive seen no evidence apart from verbal regarding any emails sent out on 27th Jan. Just payment will be made by end of January. Thanks
Ryan says
Am I right in thinking the payout has be made by end of January as they have a time limit from redress email to payout? They have already been given an extention as it was meant to be December?
Lynne says
I understand they got a 2 month extension (payouts should’ve been end of November strictly speaking), hence the 4 months total makes it end of Jan.
Ryan says
That’s what I meant I couldn’t remember all the facts
Annonymous says
No , because it isnt redress… redress is what we would have got if the company was still there…. the company isn’t there any more, so we are creditors…they are no longer under the fca rules but the rules of administration
Ryan says
I’m pretty certain Sara said they had a time limit regardless of what situation the company was in. I think the limit was to the administers
rmoody says
Is there tax @ 20% too?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Not sure what you are asking.
You are being paid the amount of interest you paid on the loans (A) plus statutory interest (B)
20% tax (C) is deducted from the statutory interest, not from the interest being refunded.
So the total value of your claim is A + B – C.
But you are only going to be paid a percentage of this total.
You will be told by the administrators how much tax is being deducted from the amount you are paid. If you are a basic rate taxpayer AND this was you only refund in the tax year, you should be able to reclaim the tax deducted if it was less than £200.
Dave says
A massive thank you to Sara for this site. It was too late for me with Wonga and many other thieves,.. sorry lenders! that are currently getting their just deserts and are going under. I’m glad they are slowly being taken out. I’m currently taking on Sunny using Sara’s email template and have made some progress. I urge others to do the same as all of them owe and they will never admit it without prompt. Get them now. Shut them down and get back what you are owed before the fat cats take what is yours!
Jack says
I have also began using the email templates with Sunny, satsuma, lending stream and many others which have unfortunately made my life hell starting a few years back, i got myself into an absoloute spiral with these easy to get pay day loans and now wonder if i will ever be able to get a mortgage or see some light at the end of the tunnel. I myself have found this page very useful and check it daily, i am not expecting a decent pay out my accepted claim was 2.7k but anything back from these thieves will be a bonus. I wish i could turn back time and never have considered taking one of these out as i cant even get car finance or anything now and am just slowly starting to build my credit back up. Good luck to all and thanks for this Page.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I have deleted more than a hundred comments from this page today. Sorry if your valuable contribution was accidentally trashed by mistake.
If you are one of the 20+ people that have left messages saying you now have your payout or have been told what the % is (with numbers varying from 1.2% to 17.8%) then it would aid your credibility if you use a valid email address :)
Let’s hope there is some real news tomorrow!
Rob says
I still haven’t recieved a email was sappost to be getting one today so frustrating
Tracy says
You’re doing an ace job Sara. Thank you for all the info.
Lucy says
I would like to thank Sara for all your help to us poor souls who are waiting in huge anticipation for some news! I’m the same waiting to hear something! it seems amigo loans are being sold too! Something is definitely kicking off lol hopefully all these rat bags (the payday companies) will get their karma and hopefully so shall we! It’s shameful how much they have got away with over the years. Fingers crossed we’ll all hear something soon x
Dave says
Amigo, swift sterling, QuickQuid, P2P, moneybox247, all of them! If you have debts with any lenders go for it! Use Sara’s Templates before you end up in the same situation as we are in now, waiting to hear what pittance we are getting back. I was scared about taking on Sunny whom are still active but if I’m successful they owe me over 6K. Do it now. Don’t wait on sites like Sara’s (no offense Sara, brilliant site!) to hear what percentage of what is yours you will get back. Go get the lot!!
Vanessa campbell says
If Grant Thornton don’t keep to the agreed timescale what action can we take against them? They’re no better than Wonga. The distress and anxiety being caused at the moment is down to them they have not at any point given accurate information to unsecured creditors.
I want to put this behind me but tomorrow I’m-booking an appointment with my MP to see how we can raise the profile of how badly we have been treated.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I suggest you wait until next week. Complaining about Grant Thornton is just blaming the messenger. The real villains here are not Grant Thornton but Wonga and the regulators that have left everyone here with no compensation scheme when Wonga has failed.
Ross says
Vanessa , can I ask what you are stressed about ? Everyone here is in the same boat and I definitely for one , I will be pushing on from this. Certainly not caused me distress
smiley says
Ross i’m distressed as i have £3.88 in my account. I need that money however small
Nats Daley says
I have 0.49p with a bailiff on my back wanting £1930 so far me anything is a plus towards this debt. My goal this week is keeping them at bay till payment is made however small
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Can I suggest you talk to national Debtline on 0808 808 4000 about the bailiff and the rest of your financial situation.
Ross says
Sorry to hear this . I’ve recently taken steps to go on to a debt management scheme (DAS) in Scotland and it’s helped me wonders . I wished I could help in anyway :(
Nats Daley says
It is what it is. But thanks I’ve connhocted step change as recommended on this site. Taking matters into my own hands post divorce. Determined to get money sorted.
Karen H says
I am waiting for news of payment from Wonga but meanwhile wanted to share that I’ve had confirmation today of a successful claim from Myjar. Using Sara’s template to make claim on 12th Jan I didn’t expect positive outcome so soon. Nearly £3000 on it’s way to me!
Sarah says
Wow that’s brilliant. I got £1100 and just to let you know, once I signed the refund agreement, I had the money 3 days later even though they said up to 3 weeks!
James says
Hi Sarah, did you have old loans with myjar? I have a loan with them which I’m struggling to pay and they accepted £25 a month but I still have a balance of over £500! So I’m keen to know if I could try a claim
Sarah says
Yes I had a lot of old loans. I had paid them all off, but only by borrowing from other companies. Then i’d have to take out another MyJar to pay those, etc etc. Worth a go – nothing to lose!
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Hi James , did you only have 1 loan from Myjar?
RICHARD says
What did you say in your letter Karen and what documents did you submit if any ?
Sarah says
(I realise I am not Karen, however…) I submitted the template found on this website, my email address used at the time of taking out the loans, my date of birth and that’s it. Next thing I got an email saying they have considered my case and have determined I am due £1100.
Without doubt worth doing.
Eve says
Hi sarah, how long did your claim take to go through with my jar. I put a complaint in the 14th jan i understand they have 8 weeks but they seem to be working to resolve it sooner.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
If you have problems with other payday lenders the comments on the main payday loan refund page https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/ are the best place for questions as they will be seen by more people who are complaining to that particular lender.
S.D says
Hello all! Sorry to jump on, but I’ve noticed that QuickQuid has gone into administration. I have a current loan outstanding with them, would I be to make a claim do you think? And how would I go about this? Thanks all
Sara (Debt Camel) says
How many loans did you have from QQ before the current one? Can you afford to make the repayments on the current one or is it causing you hardship?
Ryan says
I have a claim with myjar which has been accepted by the adjudicator but has been pushed on to a ombudsman. My adjudicator has contacted to tell me the ombudsman has been allocated but didn’t give a time scale of how long it would take once a ombudsman has the case allocated. Any ideals anyone?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
It depends how complicated your case is. It can be very quick. If the ombudsman upholds what the adjudicator says, it goes straight to a Final Decision. If it is changed in any way both you and the lender have an opportunity to comment on it.
Ryan says
OK cheers, I had 5 loans in 6 months from £300 to £2600 the last 2 were upheld by the adjudicator. I had loads of other loans at the time so fingers crossed I suppose .
Vanessa says
Hi Ross I didn’t say that i was stressed read the comment!! although I think a lot of people are. I do think that the delay is incensing my sense of injustice in all of this. If your happy to be treated like this good luck to you but I don’t think that because the people involved in this took a few wrong turns financially they should continue to be treated badly. It isn’t the money it’s the principles and values behind this.
Annonymous says
We haven’t been treated badly. We have imposed our own expectations. The fca have put in place guidelines for compensation and complaints. There is no company anymore to deal with all the little questions people have, they do not exist.
We have been told the process, they haven’t moved from that process, all we can do is wait.
Chrissie says
Hi, did everyone get this email in jan? I got a very similar one early November all details were correct so I didn’t need to do anything. Haven’t had anything since, did anyone else get it in November and again in January?
Thanks
Sara (Debt Camel) says
If the details are correct, you don’t need to contact them.
Lucy says
Sorry me again! I never had an email like others who claim they’ll be contacted today and paid at the end of January. This section is copied and pasted from the email I received from Wonga on January 10th 2020
“We previously emailed you in relation to your successful claim in the Wonga administration. At the end of January, we will communicate by email the amount you will be due to receive as a dividend.”
So I’m not building my hopes up for an immediate payment from them the end of this month – it looks as though they’ll only be emailing me to confirm the amount due to me x
Karen H says
Richard, I used the template on this website. Think it was on the refunds section. Very easy and didn’t have to supply any documentation at all.
Sarah, thanks for info regarding Myjar. With a bit of luck I might have my refund this week 😁
Scott says
Hi All,
If people still have outstanding complaints to be made, can I suggest that you go for the ones that you had the most dealings with.
Anyone with 1 or 2 small loans should just let it go.
From everything that I have read on different pages of this site and elsewhere there are loads of frivolous complaints where people are trying to get back £30 for one loan. These are being rejected and people are going to FOS.
1000 1 loan £100 complaints that have no chance of being upheld at FOS is costing the company £550,000, add that onto the redress costs and that explains why Companies decide to fold.
Whilst I welcome the demise of these companies, I would love to see people getting as much back as possible,
Just remember that the big one that you are waiting on may have loads of FOS 1 loan complaints and that company may go like Wonga.
Aim for the ones that owe you the most and hopefully everyone will get something.
If you check historical comments on the main Payday page you will see what i mean –
Eg I only had 1 loan but thought I’d do a trial run at FOS or I paid £18 interest and took it to FOS and they didn’t uphold it.
I wish everyone all the best in getting something back from the lenders that they have used but if things continue the way that they are going, we will see Sara setting up many more individual pages.
Sngfsh says
Disagree………..People should claim for every penny they are owed back
Nick H says
But he’s talking about frivolous complaints that are being rejected. These aren’t pennies that are owed back.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I think it’s a pretty personal decsion about whether someone should take a “small” case to the ombudsman. If you know the loan caused your hardship then it’s your right to have your complaint considered, but most cases for just a couple of loans are not won unless the loans are large. So don’t get your hopes up.
This isn’t really “money you are owed” that you just collect. It is a question of judgment about whether the lender should not have given you the loan.
But what looks small on paper to someone else, may have been a lot of money and stress to you.
And even if you have only had 1 loan, if you can’t make the next payments, ask for an affordable payment arrangement. Don’t pay and have to borrow again. the sooner you get out of the payday loan trap the better!
Brian says
I’m really interested in these posts as I’ve taken loan out with Myjar and am now in a DMP with Payplan as by debts are out of control. I’ve also had several loans from Mr Lender and also with lending stream. The latter of the two I’ve had several with, having to pay one off then needing to take out another. Can I reclaim anything from them, as they’ve certainly made things worse long term.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
If you had several loans from Mr lender and Lending Stream, complain using the template here https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/
If you only had the one loan from Myjar, you aren’t likely to win a complaint unless it was very large – in which case, use the template here: https://debtcamel.co.uk/refunds-large-high-cost-loans/
James says
Hi, just wondering.. if my debts from payday lenders i.e. wonga and quick quid got sold to lantern debt recovery but im still getting emails from wonga with redress amounts then what happens to the debts with lantern? Do i still have to pay lantern these as they have bought the debts?
Ca says
Can you still put a complaint in if your still paying off your loans?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Yes, that’s the best time to complain! It stops you having to borrow more as the repayments leave you so short of money so it ends the cycle of never ending loans.
Ca says
Brilliant. Thankyou, I’ve currently got loans with sunny, lending stream, 118 money and satsuma so am struggling to make payments and have kept borrowing from them over the last 3 years so will give it a try
Christian says
Sara can we make a complaint about myjar’s unfair lending? How would we go about this?
Thank you for all your great work by the way, you and all the guys at debtcamel!
Sara (Debt Camel) says
see https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/ and ask any further questions on that page please.
Nick says
Brian, I had a ‘large’ (£1500) loan from MyJar. Made a complaint using Sara’s templates in November & they upheld it & wrote off all the interest (within the 8 weeks). I still have about £300 of the original loan to repay but they have agreed that I can clear this over next 12 months. (I also had complaints against Avant Credit (now with Ombudsman), Sunny (rejected initially, I emailed MD, he upheld it & paid £1800 just before Christmas) and Lending Stream (now with Ombudsman). I am fairly confident of success with Avant & Lending Stream, & I wouldn’t have ever thought of complaining against the other companies if it hadn’t been for Wonga administrators agreeing redress – I thought then, what have I got to lose?
S says
Hi, what email address did you use for the MD of sunny? They rejected my complaint even though they let me borrow over 100 loans over two years. Aswell as borrowing from these other thieves
Nick says
Hi – it was pbaldry@elevatecredit.co.uk.
Paul says
i had a claim rejected by sunny through a 3rd party, how and who did you email please
Sara (Debt Camel) says
You went through a claims company? How long ago was this? if it was less than 6 months, you can pick up the complaint. If it was older than that you can’t – and you can’t put in a second one either :(
Paul says
yes [edited claims company name] i started it in September and was rejected in November. sorry for sounding silly but what would i say in the email? i have a copy of my loans statement that i can attach to it as i can no longer log in
Sara (Debt Camel) says
did the CMC ask if you wanted to take the case to the Ombudsman?
paul says
This is what the CMC said:
We have now received a Final Response from Sunny regarding your claim.
Unfortunately they have advised they are not upholding this complaint and as such are not offering a monetary refund. We do not believe we have a strong enough case to escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service, however you can still do this yourself if you so wish. More information is available at http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Good, you are in time. Read the “How to send a complaint to FOS” section in https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/. And add into your complaint that you previously went through [name of CMC] but they have said you need to take the complaint to FOS yourself. Attach email from CMC.
Jonathan says
I had 7 payday loans with My Jar over two years, sent them an email as per the instructions. Will let you know if anything positive comes out of it.
Scott says
Hi Jonathan,
Can you post your updates on the main Payday loan page here:
https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/
Ruth says
Go to bed 😴 and stop worrying about it. At least we know that we are one day closer to a payout. Yes it is an anxious time but all will be revealed soon. X
John says
I’ve read conflicting reports that these Wonga loans with be expunged from credit files. Credible websites say different things, am I right in believing they’ll stay on file until the 6 years is up from final payments? I checked my record this week and mine are still there, I was hoping that due to being unfairly given they’d be removed shortly.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I am expecting the loans the administrators decided should be refunded will be deleted, no timescale but I hope next month.
Chris says
Sara, I just curious to know what payday loans etc you had, can you share with us? Just interested to know your circumstances in relation to this aswell, if possible.
Scott says
Hi Chris,
See https://debtcamel.co.uk/about/ for Sara’s bio.

Joanne says
Had an email to log in and confirm bank details months ago which I did. Received a recent email quoting the last 4 digits of my account which were wrong, don’t know where they got them from. Have now emailed 3 times asking for the link to.update as you cannot log in anymore. Have rang twice and been on hold for over 30 mins each time. Now concerned the payout will go to the wrong bank account
Julie Dobby says
Email received this morning with links to update details
Will get to know end of January payment due
Richie says
I have had loans with, mrlender, myjar, quick quid, 247moneybox, satsuma, uncle buck and two more I can’t remember the names of my head. They have sll been sent to a third party due to not being able to afford them. I have also had loans in the past with wonga, sunny, ferratum, lending stream, which all got payed off. I wouldn’t even know where to start with trying to get refunds because I don’t have much info about my loans.
James says
Read the instructions on this site it pretty much tells you step by step, before they all go bust!
Mark says
Hi Richie try this site. https://www.resolver.co.uk/
It was recommended on Martin Lewis and just it gives you free template letters and the companies details to send it to. Just type the name of the company and it will kind of do the rest for you in simple steps
Hope this helps
Nick says
I work within a financial business and I am sure that absolutely nothing any of us do at this stage will make any difference at all. The Administrators will have a strict timescale and process already in place for making the payments. We have been told that it will be at the end of January. We know that we won’t be seeing much of our agreed redress (mine’s £2323, so anything above about £110 will be a bonus). We have all got to be patient!
Sam says
I interpreted the email as saying payment will be on Friday and we would be emailed the confirming amount just before so maybe Thursday. I understand people are anxious (I am) but just sit tight and see what happens.
On a side note, has anyone been successful in claiming from lending stream? I see they are still operational. I had numerous loans with them around the same time as Wonga so I have used the template to email them.
Jack says
I emailed them regarding loans i have had with them using the template provided, as i have with sunny and satsuma, had replies off both .. except LS.
james smith says
Yes i had a successful claim against LS, had to go through FO as was rejected firstly, they had to honor 9 of 15 loans and i ended up receiving 1800, LS do drag it out to the last day though so don’t give up hope.
Jason says
Got my Lending Stream refund yesterday. Had a few with different companies and they are by far the most difficult to deal with. They will ignore you, give themselves extensions and turn down everything. Ended up with ombudsman and I got £3300. You just have to persevere.
Peter says
Did they pay up within the 28 days they state after the settlement was accepted?
Jason Fowler says
I called them on the 28th day, and they said the refund would be processed that day. It went in about 8pm.
Martin says
Andrew, the administrators could be trying to secure the last of Wong’s assets for us, taking time away from them just to answer your queries is either stupidly, arrogance or spite.
Yeah it might not change a thing at this point anyway but better to just wait, if you can wait for as long as you have already then what’s a few days more?
Stay frosty.
Lynne says
Can’t believe it’s this close to pay out day and they’re still sending links to people to update their banking details??!
Sara (Debt Camel) says
The more they sort now the better!
Anthony says
Will be very supprised if we get anything back to be honest it’s aĺl quiet, my claim was £5176 am expecting an announcement to say no money left
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I will be ASTONISHED if that happens.
Nick says
The administrators had £40 million available at the end of October so it seems unlikely that would now be zero.
Gary says
40 million plus what foreign operations sold for plus any extra money paid in
Sue says
This is what i received on the 10/1/2020 from wonga no specific dates was given just end of January
We previously emailed you in relation to your successful claim in the Wonga administration. At the end of January, we will communicate by email the amount you will be due to receive as a dividend.
Please be aware, the payment you receive will be considerably smaller than your accepted claim value.
Lynne says
Yes we’ve all had that email. The frustration is they’re not even telling us how much we’re getting and are obviously waiting until the last minute!
Chris says
Right I have just spoken to the Wonga team at Grant Thornton directly and they told me everyone will receive an email tomorrow definitely stating the percentage and amount to be paid. Also they said don’t bother appealing it if you’re not happy as obviously there will be no money left in the pot. Hope this update helps.
Chris says
Also don’t bother calling Wonga directly anymore they are less than useless and know nothing at all.
Nats Daley says
This sounds about right if payment is made for 30th..
That s for letting us know 😁
Teddybear says
Thanks for the info Chris. This will put a lot of peoples mind at rest. Roll on tomorrow ……
Nick says
What’s general consensus on how much % you will get?
Will they priorize larger claims over smaller ones?
For example mine was £374 sent by administrators, but should I expect like 10% of that?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Everyone will get exactly the same percentage.
Barry says
whether your redress is £100 for person A or £1000 for person B, everyone gets same percentage, so assuming its 10%, person A would receive £10, and person B, £100
Sharon says
Thankyou so much Chris this has helped put my mind at rest 😊
Stu says
Thank Chris
Maria says
Hi can you assist. I had a lot of loans with Quickquid over the years and did complain twice but they were not upheld. I have kept emailing them but have had no response and l now understand they are in administration – l have emailed the administrators and they have replied l need to email Quickquid complaints which l have done – is there anything else l can do. I also had loans with Sunny and Lending Stream who did not uphold my complaint.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
please ask on the main payday loan refund page about Sunny and Lending Stream: https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/
and on the QQ administration page: https://debtcamel.co.uk/quickquid-casheuronet-administration/
Shaun says
Hello all, probably the same question as a good few on here, I recently got my lending stream complaint knocked back, but my pounds for pocket accepted and got a nice sum back.
I am just seeing is it worth following up with the ombudsman for my LS complaint because I think there are similarities. I just don’t want to get into trouble because they were saying I could afford them, and my original complaint was about affordability. Basically I was trying to get a few quid back off these type of firms I’ve lent off in the past.
Any advice be appreciated.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
how many loans did you have from them? were there any big gaps between the loans?
shaun says
I had 9 in total they were telling me.
14th March 2016 – 2nd September 2017.
I had 1. March £600
2/3/4 all in July £150-£100-£500 ( all within 15 days ) I can’t remember if I cleared 1 loan then reapplied. If that makes sense.
5. Sep 2016 £100
6. Dec 2016 £600
7. Feb 2017 £80
8. April 2017 £300
9. Sep 2017 £600
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I think thats worth going to the Ombudsman.
shaun says
Thank you Sara for the advice 👍
Jack says
Did you just send them a template email that was provided on here? Did you have to send them any supporting evidence. I used a template email i found on [another site] … basically saying i was sold loans when i was already in a lot of debt, with poor credit and am waiting for a response from them now. These were with LS, sunny, satsuma, 118 just to name a few..
shaun says
I used resolver site. They posted to a wrong email though so ended up directly at lending stream. I was just going to take the answer thinking I was wrong but reading some comments makes me wonder if to carry on. I am not great with all stuff like this so find it difficult but that template letter does seem handy
S says
Hello, do you know what email you used for lending stream?
Stu says
I just did it through the complaints procedure on the site
Jason Fowler says
Lending Stream seem to refuse nearly all claims. They are very hard work, if you had 57 loans like I did, then don’t give up. Send it to the ombudsman, it’s worth doing.
MJ says
Got an email today 28/01/2020
We recently emailed you the last 4 digits of the bank account number we have on file for you, and that your successful claim will be paid into. If these details were incorrect and you need to update them, follow the steps below.
If your details were correct, or if you have already sent us your new details, please ignore this email.
At the end of January, we will communicate by email the amount you will be due to receive as a dividend.
Please be aware, the payment you receive will be considerably smaller than your accepted claim value.
I suppose they are updating card details today as sent them email ages ago to update. Those waiting look ut in spam folder
Mal says
Hi, I sent a complaint to quickquid and they replied with this excerpt:
3. Complaint – to help us reach a fair complaint outcome in a timely manner (and where appropriate provide an offer of compensation), please provide us with the following information as soon as possible:
· Bank statements (at the point/s you took out your loan/s with us)
· Payslips (at the point/s you took out your loan/s with us)
· Any additional information relating to your financial circumstances (at the point you took out your loan/s with us)
· What is the date of your first loan?
· How long did it take you to realise that QuickQuid might have been responsible for any financial difficulty you faced?
Do I need to provide all this – I am no longer with the bank I had then, or with the company I worked with then. I Surely they should have the detail (they have my customer ID) of the loans.
Appreciate any guidance here.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
No you don’t. just tell them you would like your complaint considered by the automated tool the administrators have said they are developing. I expect it to look pretty much like the Wonga one!
PS further questions best on the QuickQuid page not here https://debtcamel.co.uk/quickquid-casheuronet-administration/
Mal says
Thank you – I came to this thread when googling to see any update on Wonga, so this is useful guidance and also for any others. Much appreciated.
Melanie says
I have a claim with them and not got an update since 4th November other then to say they are still looking at it, so just keep it in mind it may take a while
Mal says
Thanks, yes, I expect it will take a while, but just replied with the comment about the automated tool and to say their were many loans from Quickquid and others, so I will wait and see. Finger crossed.
Steve says
Hi Guys,
I’m still yet to hear anything from wonga following my initial email from them partially accepting my to the sum of £8k obviously I’m aware that I will only receive a fraction of this, how ever most people from what I’ve read have recieved further correspondence and an email to ask them to update their bank details which I haven’t.
Is this unusual?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
it may have gone into your spam folder. If they have the right bank account number for you, this isn’t a problem.
Steve says
Yes I’ve checked my spam folder and I havent recieved anything. My bank details haven’t changed but I’d of thought if they were upholding my claim that they would of emailed for the bank details?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
they already had your bank details.
Steve says
Ok so that email just went put to peoples who’s bank details had changed or they no longer had… thanks Sara
Jo says
Hello everyone,
Is anyone else in the same position as me? ….. I had a few Wonga loans dating back to 2010/2011 but since then the email address I used (orangehome.co.uk) servers no longer exist so I’ve not been able to see if I had any emails from Wonga recently. My bank details have also changed since then!
Will the administrators bother to track people like me down? or will I just miss out if I was entitled to anything.
I did do the original claim form online when first released and my old email address was confirmed as being on the system.
Thank you
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Have you emailed them from your new address and given details of your old email? You are likely to have to provide proof of id. You have to provide this info, they aren’t going to put a lot of effort into finding you!
Jo says
Yes, twice and no one gets back to me! Looks like I will have to phone them when I have a spare hour or 2! Thank you
I was wondering if anyone else in this position?
David Appleby says
I’ve just had an email from grant Thornton that says there is a new document on the insolvency portal but the login is not working.
Laura says
I had it aswell but my comment appears to have been deleted so annoying. It said dividend disclosure as the title SO ANNOYING
[edit: your comment was marked as pending and I sent you an email to ask more about it.]
Lynne says
What website is the insolvency portal? I’m not expecting an email from anyone based on the fact I asked them to update my email address the other week as my old one doesn’t work and I’m not convinced he changed it!
Laura says
The insolvency portal and login was sent from Grant Thornton by letter in October 2018 and they have uploaded all the documents to that so far but as David says we can’t log in anymore
David Appleby says
Just rang them and they said redress customers no longer have access to the portal but percentage disclosure will be tomorrow
Laura says
Thanks David for calling, why did they bother sending us the update if We can’t log in as accounts not active. Crazy!
David Appleby says
I know they said it was a mistake
James says
So tomo is the day… to be honest when I first complained in 2018 it was just gonna be Wonga and I thought couple of K will do, when they went bust (which I see as running away) I went after everyone I took these loans with I got 2.5k from Satsuma, 1k from LS payout in Feb hopefully won’t go bust too!, 4 companies I had 2-3 loans with each paid me back 1k between them & ive got 5/6 complaints with credit cards and banks being looked at by the FCA
I got over my gambling addiction beginning of 2019, shortly after I lost my job, by December 2019 all my payday loan debt was cleared & I got a good paid job in October 2019… anything I get from these blood suckers will go to paying off my overdraft
All the best everyone don’t expect too much though 😔
S says
Hi, how did you complain to satsuma? I need to put a complaint in with them
Thanks
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Use the template letter here: https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/
Oya says
I am in the exact situation you were in. I am yet to get over my gambling though. Please where can I find a template for the complaints?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Honestly there isn’t much point until you get help to stop the gambling – any refunds will end up back in the bookies pockets and a few weeks… https://debtcamel.co.uk/gambling/
Steve says
I agree with Sara on this one I had a gambling problem myself, get your addiction sorted first. Any refunds I received in the past were gambled
Chris says
First thing to do is admit you have an issue. I too was in the payday trap and used it (in part, not all) to fund a gambling addiction. Through various means I was in a 20K hole. Thankfully I managed to work a solution.
I have to say that I do disagree with the tone of Sara automatically assuming that you will gamble the refunds. Of course it is possible, and I would recommend seeking help TODAY to stop. I gambled to try and win money to fill what I owed, sometimes I won, other times I lost hence the spiral. But anything you can do to take positive action will help. First thing to do is address the gambling, that’s for sure but some people (like me) needed positive words of encouragement about their illness, not negative assumptions.
I hate the phrase “trust me” but please, trust me(!) you CAN stop. It is hard and will be a long road that will make you feel worse before you get better but start TODAY. You can do it
Daniel says
I would recommend gamstop free online only takes couple of mins to fill it in prevents you accessing and depositing funds to aid gambling it’s worth a look.
Katie says
Will they still acknowledge your complaint of irresponsible lending if you say you had a gambling problem? Thanks
Sara (Debt Camel) says
yes. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/gambling-payday-loan-refunds/ for some examples.
James says
I don’t think it’s a’tone’ issue I gambled every penny I had & it spurred me on to earn more money at work 2013-late 2018 I gambled probably 100’s of thousands if when I won big it would go straight back into the bookies hands, but my point being if I got my 7k claim back from Wonga when I was still gambling addicted (I will always be recovering) I would of gambled that and lost it within a week or 2, so for me Sara rings true the biggest thing to do first is get out of gambling
It was only when I stopped gambling ( it took me 6 months to quit & was a daily pitch battle with myself to not gamble) that I wanted to really deal with my debt issue as when you have an addiction you don’t care I was around £30k in the hole at my worst, I now owe about 6k maybe 7k & nothing against a payday loan so that weight is lifted my bank have been complete c*nts mind had to beg them not to register a default… but I’ve got a feeling the FCA will pull them up in the next few months when I hear back on that complaint but I am paying them back 10% a month and will be cleared in September if not before, but for 0ya my advice would be get the gambling addiction kicked first as that will stop you from doing something crazy with your life then sort the financials, don’t get me wrong if you feel you’re winning the fight get your claims in they will take months to go through
Pol says
Register with https://www.gamstop.co.uk/ right now. It only takes 5 minutes and it’s absolutely free. No matter how hard u try to sign up and gamble anywhere online you will not succeed. It won’t keep you out of bookie shops but as for online gambling it’s game over. Good luck
Matthew says
Hi might be a stupid question was there any money outstanding had you paid all the loans back?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
it’s easy to make complaints when you still owe money – it’s the best way to get out of the payday loan trap.
Tim says
Hi Sara,
A couple of quick questions.
1) to make a claim from QuickQuid should I do anyhting now, or do I just wait until Grant Thornton setup a claims portal like the Wonga one?
2) any idea if it is possible to make a claim against Pounds Till Payday? Unfortunately there website no longer exists. I believe they may have been bought by MMP Financial Limited
Many thanks
Tim
Sara (Debt Camel) says
QQ – you can claim now or wait until the portal is set up in a couple of months which may be easier. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/quickquid-casheuronet-administration/ Do you currently owe them money?
Pounds Till Payday – also in administration – send complaints to complaints@swiftsterling.co.uk
Gary Robertson says
Oya To help with gambling just go on GAMSTOP website and register, I used to bet a lot and decided I was losing too much money, now I don’t even bother looking at matches
Chris says
I contacted a [claims company] in September 2017 about Wonga, due to there incompetence my claim was agreed after there administration a year later this has cost me £3k am more annoyed at that.
Vin says
Just have to say this an amazing site…so therapeutic in many ways. Humbling to see that there are so many of “us” in a similar situation, makes you seriously question what is going on in society when a whole swath of people across many generations are so seriously affected by companies such as Wonga and their ilk! Yes we were all desperate enough to take this money but the amount of irresponsible lending that has taken place in the past few decades is a joke – where was the Government regulation?? Thank you Sara for all your efforts and help that you have provided, has definitely provided some light at the end of a dark tunnel for many of us ({})….anyone had an email stating how much they are receiving percentage-wise as yet?
PW says
Fingers crossed for tomorrow people!
I got myself in a real pickle following divorce a few years ago, became completely reliant on recurring Wonga loans and as a result my accepted claim value was £15,473.54.
Gutted I didn’t get my claim in with enough time before Wonga fell into administration, but will be nice to have some closure at least.
My credit history has improved a whole lot recently, and I’ve been able to obtain credit from the high street at ‘normal’ (ish) rates, but I’ve still got a bit outstanding. The long term goal is being completely debt-free of course, and hopefully within a year or two I’ll be in that position.
Heartbreaking reading the stories of so many site users who are still not out of the woods, and I hope the redress proves useful to them.
Also, thanks so much to Sara for running this site, what a legend.
Devon1986 says
I hear you. Was in a real pickle too. Left uni, moved to London with partner, and couldn’t afford any of it.
Was in a spiral for years and finally admitted it 12 months ago. Now have a DMP with StepChange that has helped massively and anything I get back will help as a little extra from living on such a reduced budget for about 5 more years. My accepted claim was around £8,000 and my husband’s was £4,000.
I too wish we had claimed back years ago, but c’est la vie.
Jimbo says
Hello,
Thank you Sara this page has been excellent throughout.
I have a question, apologies if this has been addressed before or on a different thread. I had a Loan via Mr Lender alongside my Wonga Loans. They kept rolling my loan over only taking £75.00 interest each month for over a year before I paid it off. Is this something I could potentially complain about, if so how would I do that.
Thanks in advance,
Sara (Debt Camel) says
definitely. use the template on here: https://debtcamel.co.uk/payday-loan-refunds/ and ask any further questions on that page.
Ryan says
Thank you Sara appreciate the responce
Liz says
I’ve just spoken to a very helpful Lady at Grant Thornton who advised me the emails confirming payments are being sent tomorrow and She has passed a message to her contact at Wonga to contact me for my correct bank details.
Ian says
Hi sara my old halifax acc is now in the hands of of company that i pay monthly paymentsto outstanding balance of about 1500 i have a funny feeling my wonga redress might get paid into this acc im sure i updated my new bank acc last year but not 100% if it does can i make a claim for this money or will it just get swallowed up if i get 10% back 600 is better in my pocket thats all thanks. Ive emailed and phoned to check but i cant afford to wait over an hour on the phone
Sara (Debt Camel) says
if you didn’t correct the bank account number, then this money is just going to reduce your overdraft debt.
Ian says
I was paying £11 a month to wonga from my new bank acc but i was phoning up every month no direct debit or anything like that just paying from my card, to save me phoning would this mean i would have changed my bank details.
Thanks
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I don’t like guessing in this situation. Did the administrators tell you the last 4 digits of the bank account they have?
Ian says
No i cant recall that, ive only had my redress email last year nothing since and theres nothing on that email, can only assume i must have updated my bank acc within the last year so they didnt send me an email on the 10th of jan! I just looked at an old email from wonga and i said i was happy for my cmc to take all payments this was 2018 before they went bust but i havnt heard from my cmc for a good year now
Barry says
Long term, it would probably help your cause better reducing your debt
Wendy says
Hi
I had a similar problem with Natwest Overdraft? However I know I did update bank details for the redress in November. But wanted triple check as I got a refund from Quick Quid £1070 last year, guess I was lucky to do it before they went bust. No problem with the claim, I do it all on resolver and they paid into the account into my bank straight away. However I made a error and missed of digit of bank account number. I realised after they tried to send payment and it did bounce back to them. But it took another full month of phones calls and promises to get it paid back!! It was such a nightmare and I felt really foolish. Eventually it came through And was very relieved. Good job it didn’t happens in the latter part of the year as I don’t think I would of got it.
Chris says
Hi I have had every email except my accepted claim amount, would Grant Thornton be able to tell me this ,cheers
Sara (Debt Camel) says
yes but you would have to be on the phone for more than an hour. As you are going to find out the amount you will get tomorrow, is this really worth it?
Connor Chadwick says
I have had a link sent to me in order to amend my bank account details and it was holding old/inactive account details – once I click on the link, it;s not very instructional, yes there’s an area to upload files… but do I have to login first? Or do I just ;upload the files and then leave the page?
Can somebody help me out here please?
Thanks,
CC
Steven says
No need to login just follow instructions in ema
Connor Chadwick says
instruction aren’t very clear..
Link provided and says what documents to upload but the upload page is very bland and lacks information.. for example just an uploads button and once you have uploaded your files there’s no confirmation… meaning you get left in the lerch wondering if they have actually got your new details
Adelle says
Got email today to confirm my bank details as i sent them through logging on my account by the email they sent me but no confirmation they received them, hopefully they get this one ?
scott cooper says
