QuickQuid administration is paying 53.5p in the £

Payments – UPDATE – 25 April 2022

Administrators have started sending emails to everyone with an upheld claim telling them what they will be paid.

“The Joint Administrators are now in a position to declare a first and final dividend of 53.5p in the £”

The average claim value is c £1,700. Someone with that claim value will get a payout of about £910.

The payout details are given in the email:

  • This will be paid over the next two weeks.
  • If the administrators couldn’t validate your banking details, it will be sent by cheque. I don’t know how the administrators will “validate” your details.
  • If you used a claims company, the money will be paid to them.
  • Most people are not having any deduction for tax paid to HMRC, so there is no need to reclaim anything.

Credit records

The administrators may decide to :
– remove any negative marks on your credit record
– delete all loans that were upheld
– delete all your loans.

I don’t know what they have chosen to do – if people can check and report in the comments when they see a change, that would be great.

How much your credit score will change will depend on whether there were any negative marks. If you want to get a mortgage, you would like as many payday loans gone as possible, even if they were repaid on time and not hurting your credit score.

In a few months when the administrators no longer talk to the CRAs you can ask for any remaining loans to be “suppressed” so other lenders can’t see them. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/correct-credit-records-lender-administration/ but it is too soon to do that now.

CashEuroNet administrators to pay 53.5p in the £ to QuickQuid and OnStride customers mis-sold unaffordablepayday loans

QuickQuid went into administration in October 2019

CashEuroNet (CEU), which owns the QuickQuid, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride brands, stopped giving loans and went into administration on 25 October 2019.

I will be talking about QuickQuid (QQ) rather than CashEuroNet as it is the more familiar name. Everything here also applies to loans from Cashruronet’s other brands, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride.

Grant Thornton were appointed as Administrators. They set up a page about Redress Complaints – this is their term for people who have asked for a refund because they were given unaffordable loans.

Background to the QuickQuid Administration

QuickQuid was one of the “Big Three” payday lenders in Britain, starting out in 2007.

After Wonga and the Money Shop Group had all stopped lending and gone bust over the last fifteen months, QuickQuid was left as the largest UK payday lender.

QuickQuid had well over a million customers. When it went into administration there were c. 500,000 customers with outstanding loans.

Many of these customers had prolonged borrowing from QQ. They either rolling loans over or repaid one loan but were left so short of money that they had to borrow again.

These customers have good reasons to win an affordability complaint and get a refund of the interest they paid.

Affordability complaints started on a small scale in 2015 and increased in the next few years.

In 2018, complaints going to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS) jumped with the involvement of Claims Companies and QuickQuid became the most complained about firm to FOS, excluding PPI complaints.

For a long time QQ refused to refund interest on any loans taken more than 6 years before or where the loans were given in 2015 or afterwards. This resulted in a huge backlog of claims at the Financial Ombudsman, where QQ had made very poor offers to customers and then rejected an adjudicator decision.

In late July 2019, QQ agreed to accept several thousand FOS complaints it had previously rejected.

By accepting the FOS decisions on loans over 6 years, long chains of borrowing, and loans taken after 2015, the scale of QQ’s likely future liability for refunds will have become clear to the company.

After failing to persuade the FCA that a Scheme of Arrangement was appropriate, Enova, CEU’s large and profitable US parent, decided to close the UK business, blaming the UK regulatory environment.

How could the regulators let this happen?

This is an excellent question… Stella Creasy, MP called for an inquiry into the FCA over Wonga and QuickQuid.

I have looked at the question here: More payday lenders go under in 2019 – was anything learned from Wonga?

What has happened in the administration

Customers with a valid claim for a refund are “unsecured creditors”. This includes:

  • any refunds that were in progress after an amount was agreed or a Final Decision from a FOS Ombudsman (FOS);
  • complaints that were underway at QQ or FOS when QQ went under;
  • any new complaints sent to the Administrators.

All complaints at FOS legally had to stop and were been passed back to the Administrators. It isn’t possible to send any new complaints to FOS.

It is now too late to submit a Claim for unaffordable lending. The last date was 14 February 2021.

The administrators have given the following statistics about claims:

  • 169,000 customers made claims for unaffordable lending;
  • 78,000 claims were upheld by the administrators;
  • the upheld claims had a total value of £136million, so an average of about £1,700 per claim.

Still owe a balance on a QuickQuid or On Stride loan?

More than 300,000 of the current loans were sold to Lantern in summer 2021. You should have been informed if your loan was sold.

The administrators have now stopped collecting any money from the remaining unsold loans.

I have been trying to call CashEuroNet now all of yesterday and the majority of today with zero success. I want to check the bank details I provided in 2020 to start my claim. I am 99.9% sure they are correct as the bank I most likely gave is one I have always been with, however have since changed address and am worried if a cheque is sent instead.

Does anyone know how I can check the bank details I provided when making the claim as I cannot seem to get through to anyone via the phone. Nor can I see the original claim I put in as i cannot seem to locate it on my Grant Thornton account.

I have emailed CashEuroNet about the change in my address and to see what bank details were provided (even though im 99.9% sure they are correct) but still havent had a reply.

I am just worried if a check is sent rather than a bank transfer as I no longer live at that address, can anyone help at all, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. currently listening to the hold music on there phoneline for over an hour without even speaking to anymore…

I called yesterday at 7pm on loud speaker while I was putting washing away etc so I could still carry on my evening. On hold 15 minutes and I had tried all day and been on hold over an hour with no joy. Try later in the evening worked for me.

I also wanted to call to confirm banking details I was on hold for 80 minutes . The customer service agent was very apologetic and confirmed that my details were correct but also had been updated through the claims portal which i was 90% sure I did.
Just a little piece of mind I hope you got through

Unless the refund is less than £500, it should probably be paid to your IVA firm :(

Can I ask why you needed an IVA – did you have assets to protect such as a house with equity? How are you finding the repayments with bills and prices going up?

    Hi All,

It’s not crazy to double check they have the correct bank details… I updated and confirmed my new account details months ago. I then called last week just to double check they were correct and they would pay into that account and everything was okay and they read out my details to confirm… well thank god my previous account is still in use as I see the money pending there. While this is great that I am receiving it this could have ended up as a long chase for the money had I shut this account down. So no one feel a way to check, check and double check that they have the right details!

I also have a (very large!) payment showing in my Monzo bank account to be paid to me tomorrow.

I had no idea what this is, I noticed this yesterday and had to Google the name to read that this is related to ex customers of Quick Quick. being owed compensation. I have not received an email about this but maybe my account was linked to and old email address that I no longer have access to as it was 5+ years ago that I was a QQ customer.

A very unexpected and wonderful surprise ! :-)

I also put in complaints to likelyloans and Lending Stream, however they have both rejected my claims as i put in a complaint 4 years ago so they are say the case is now closed. Any way around this? Life was a bit different 4 years ago so wasn’t in the right frame of mind and probably didn’t do enough research back then. I think it is wrong they can dismiss another claim?

use the template here https://debtcamel.co.uk/refunds-large-high-cost-loans/ to make a complaint about Likely Loans and Loans2Go.

Don’t be fobbed off. If LL reject, send it straight to the ombudsman where they are losing a lot of complaints. If L2G reject, do the same, but if L2G make a poor offer, come back and leave a comment on that page as l2G can often be persuaded to inprove an offer.

It doesn’t matter if a debt was sold – the complaint still goes to the original lender.

Quick question. For those who are saying they already see the payment ready to clear in their bank for tomorrow did you update bank details in the portal or contact them recently to update? I have only ever had 1 bank account and 1 address so I would think that they should be able to pay it direct into my bank that they have on file but I’ve seen people have been contacting QQ and have been told they could not verify their details. Basically if I didn’t contact them is it likely I’m getting a cheque or is that just an unknown?

No, I called them a few years back to change bank accounts to Monzo. Sounds stupid I know but purely because at that time monzo started doing the “get paid a day early thing” and notifies you it’s coming in. Hence why I can see it and collect it today.

Despite our attempts to contact you, we have not been able to validate your banking information. As a result, any dividend payment you are entitled to receive will be paid by cheque to the current address we have on file for you, unless you validate your bank details using the Online Claims Portal or contacting the Contact Centre.

Just waited 1.5hours to be told my payment might already be sent to the wrong account. They’ve emailed me and I had to reply with my correct details and proof of ID and bank statement. But no guarantees they can change the account details in time.

I updated my details using an email address they provided but phoned and waited on hold for 45 minutes for them to say they weren’t sure if I had enough time to get the details changed, the First Lady I spoke too was lovely, the second not so much. Basically the second lady said all the payments have already been sent and it was too late to change account details, the First Lady said give it ago and wait and see. I wouldn’t hold your breathe to have your details changed. Luckily the account I have them being paid into is only overdrawn and not closed so I’ll still be left with a hefty sum I didn’t expect.

I have just spoken to QQ over the phone as I had not received an email and couldn’t see the pending payment in my account. I waited 50 minutes. They could not find my claim under either my current email address or previous one.

The could see my overpayment and communication regarding my email address but not the actual claim. The lady I spoke to now has to speak with a manager and then email/call me back.

I will post again when I know more.

I emailed last month and they’ve added me to the list for the redress. I didn’t know the 30th was a date they had in mind for further information. I just got an email back stating they had dissolved and interest had been noted and any redress would be relayed in no set period of time. Where did you see 30th?

I haven’t heard a word yet. I’m going to be so angry if they don’t uphold mine. They accepted that they had lent irresponsibly weeks before they went into administration but they dragged their feet and kept promising it would be paid but it never was. The redress might be small but I want the negative marks off my credit report. After having dozens of payday loans removed after successful complaints it’s looking so much better than it was a year ago, but the MyJar loans were the most recent.

So as I hadn’t received my email, or had a response to an email, I bit the bullet and rang. Got through in under 50 mins, and a helpful Lady found my details (£1336, happy days!) and checked my bank info. She said that I should’ve got the email although they did have problems with some, although she didn’t know why we never got the email at all. It does take about 5 mins to get the final figure, but I know now what I have got, that my bank info is correct, and the end is almost in sight!
Just to help those worrying about wrong bank info. we must’ve had the option to input details in the complaint process, as I know 100% that the account I have is not the one I had when I had my loans. So it won’t revert to an old account unless you didn’t provide the new one. Also I would suggest that if you haven’t had an email, its most likely an email issue, not that your not getting the refund. I get the impression they have attempted to send all, but somewhere a glitch has ‘lost’ a few unfortunately.
Anyway, I can now stop wearing out the F5 button trying to refresh my email and instead check my bank instead!
As others have said, thanks Sara for this site, its been invaluable for finding out info. Next challenge is contacting Virgin Money and seeing where I get with a complaint against the £10k card limit they gave me without a request for an increase, that partially led to me going in to a DMP….

Interestingly I got two payments from M & S. I had a card for £5000 and they gave me £600 out of the blue. This was from back in 2013/2014 I think so if anyone did have cards who wasn’t compensated and these were around the time the loans were out I would raise it with the companies.

As like so many on here it had been that long I couldn’t remember if I had given them the account details of my current bank, but the lady asked a few security questions and gave me 2 digits from the sort code and 2 digits from the account number to confirm. She advised that I will receive my payment by the 9th May.

Phew, so relieved and so glad to be finally compensated.

If they send a payment to an account which no longer exists, then it should “bounce bank” and they can see this.
If they send a cheque to a wrong address, that may be harder to sort out but it should be possible in the end.

I hadn’t received an email but spoke to them on the phone and they sent me an email to my current email address. They initially mentioned my payment was being made to Clear Legal Marketing but when I told them I had made the claim myself and have been in communications with cash euro net directly and not CLM, they went and ‘checked’ with management and told me I would receive the full redress via cheque.

Slightly worried they’ve told me this but will still send the payment to CLM and just wanted me to get off the phone, what are the chances of this? She was adamant the cheque of full amount will be sent to my home address but won’t feel at ease until it comes I suppose.

    Very helpful lady.
    1. Payments are being issued by bacs but they can not tell you if your payment has been sent.
    2. If you need to provide updated bank details you need to send proof and ID
    3. If your loan was sold to lantern to adjudicators will be asking them to write it off. They are NOT THE TP

If you read your email from them in full there is a list of FAQs that provide all of this info

Bacs payments take 3 days to clear however after the second day the receiving bank already know the amount and it’s already cleared from the sender so is extremely unlikely that the money won’t now arrive and so Monzo basically loan you the money till the next day when it’s fully cleared. all banks could do this but they just don’t. It’s just one or the great things about Monzo.

After some advice on here I lodged an affordability complaint with 118 last week which they confirmed they had received. I’ve now been offered a reduced settlement figure of £460 if paid by 30/4/22 and my loan balance is £1240. Is this going to affect my affordability complaint if I accept? And should I accept? Any advice would be great.

Update for those of you who bank with Santander, the money is in! So anyone in the first payment batch should have it if u bank with them, the rest of us with other banks may see it overnight – and if not then obviously by the 08/05 as QQ have advised

I bank with Santander and the money is now in my account. Thank you so much to Sara. If I hadn’t have stumbled across this website many years ago, I never would have gone through this process and had an opportunity to claw back some of my misspent youth – literally!
