QuickQuid administration is paying 53.5p in the £

Payments – UPDATE – 25 April 2022

Administrators have started sending emails to everyone with an upheld claim telling them what they will be paid.

“The Joint Administrators are now in a position to declare a first and final dividend of 53.5p in the £”

The average claim value is c £1,700. Someone with that claim value will get a payout of about £910.

The payout details are given in the email:

  • This will be paid over the next two weeks.
  • If the administrators couldn’t validate your banking details, it will be sent by cheque. I don’t know how the administrators will “validate” your details.
  • If you used a claims company, the money will be paid to them.
  • Most people are not having any deduction for tax paid to HMRC, so there is no need to reclaim anything.

Credit records

The administrators may decide to :
– remove any negative marks on your credit record
– delete all loans that were upheld
– delete all your loans.

I don’t know what they have chosen to do – if people can check and report in the comments when they see a change, that would be great.

How much your credit score will change will depend on whether there were any negative marks. If you want to get a mortgage, you would like as many payday loans gone as possible, even if they were repaid on time and not hurting your credit score.

In a few months when the administrators no longer talk to the CRAs you can ask for any remaining loans to be “suppressed” so other lenders can’t see them. See https://debtcamel.co.uk/correct-credit-records-lender-administration/ but it is too soon to do that now.

CashEuroNet administrators to pay 53.5p in the £ to QuickQuid and OnStride customers mis-sold unaffordablepayday loans

QuickQuid went into administration in October 2019

CashEuroNet (CEU), which owns the QuickQuid, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride brands, stopped giving loans and went into administration on 25 October 2019.

I will be talking about QuickQuid (QQ) rather than CashEuroNet as it is the more familiar name. Everything here also applies to loans from Cashruronet’s other brands, Pounds To Pocket and On Stride.

Grant Thornton were appointed as Administrators. They set up a page about Redress Complaints – this is their term for people who have asked for a refund because they were given unaffordable loans.

Background to the QuickQuid Administration

QuickQuid was one of the “Big Three” payday lenders in Britain, starting out in 2007.

After Wonga and the Money Shop Group had all stopped lending and gone bust over the last fifteen months, QuickQuid was left as the largest UK payday lender.

QuickQuid had well over a million customers. When it went into administration there were c. 500,000 customers with outstanding loans.

Many of these customers had prolonged borrowing from QQ. They either rolling loans over or repaid one loan but were left so short of money that they had to borrow again.

These customers have good reasons to win an affordability complaint and get a refund of the interest they paid.

Affordability complaints started on a small scale in 2015 and increased in the next few years.

In 2018, complaints going to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS) jumped with the involvement of Claims Companies and QuickQuid became the most complained about firm to FOS, excluding PPI complaints.

For a long time QQ refused to refund interest on any loans taken more than 6 years before or where the loans were given in 2015 or afterwards. This resulted in a huge backlog of claims at the Financial Ombudsman, where QQ had made very poor offers to customers and then rejected an adjudicator decision.

In late July 2019, QQ agreed to accept several thousand FOS complaints it had previously rejected.

By accepting the FOS decisions on loans over 6 years, long chains of borrowing, and loans taken after 2015, the scale of QQ’s likely future liability for refunds will have become clear to the company.

After failing to persuade the FCA that a Scheme of Arrangement was appropriate, Enova, CEU’s large and profitable US parent, decided to close the UK business, blaming the UK regulatory environment.

How could the regulators let this happen?

This is an excellent question… Stella Creasy, MP called for an inquiry into the FCA over Wonga and QuickQuid.

I have looked at the question here: More payday lenders go under in 2019 – was anything learned from Wonga?

What has happened in the administration

Customers with a valid claim for a refund are “unsecured creditors”. This includes:

  • any refunds that were in progress after an amount was agreed or a Final Decision from a FOS Ombudsman (FOS);
  • complaints that were underway at QQ or FOS when QQ went under;
  • any new complaints sent to the Administrators.

All complaints at FOS legally had to stop and were been passed back to the Administrators. It isn’t possible to send any new complaints to FOS.

It is now too late to submit a Claim for unaffordable lending. The last date was 14 February 2021.

The administrators have given the following statistics about claims:

  • 169,000 customers made claims for unaffordable lending;
  • 78,000 claims were upheld by the administrators;
  • the upheld claims had a total value of £136million, so an average of about £1,700 per claim.

Still owe a balance on a QuickQuid or On Stride loan?

More than 300,000 of the current loans were sold to Lantern in summer 2021. You should have been informed if your loan was sold.

The administrators have now stopped collecting any money from the remaining unsold loans.

I got my email yesterday, very happy with the unexpected higher % and no tax for me means I’ll be getting a lovely £2,274.87. Will pay off my debt and get me a month ahead on my rent again with still a bit to put aside. I however don’t think I ever gave them any bank details, I vaguely remember getting a call from an American speaking lady a year or so ago but I wouldn’t speak to her cz I thought it was a scam – I wonder if that was them? I’m pretty sure I have the same bank account but I don’t live at the address anymore. Do you think it’s worth me calling them? Or should I sit tight for now?
Thanks Sara this site has kept me sane even though we’ve sent you crazy! Haha

No, i don’t really use that account anymore although there is a monthly payment that goes into it and I transfer to and from it so it is active. I’m pretty sure that’s the account I don’t remember closing any accounts with my bank just getting the one I actually use day to day now. 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Hello I am in a similar predicament – I called today and like others waited over an hour to speak with an agent.

I was advised not to worry if I haven’t received an email, they are sending the communications in batches ( I did ask when the last email send was scheduled but the person I spoke to couldn’t confirm)

I did provide my Customer Reference Number and the call handler could only confirm my details ie bank account and email address they hold but not the claim amount or payment date.

I hope this may save someone the trouble of calling and waiting to hear the same thing.

I had serious suicide thoughts at the end of 2018 due to the vicious cycle of loans I’d been getting for 7 years. My wages were only covering my priority bills and the loans. I then had to take other loans to get me through to my next wage. I was gambling online and whilst it gave me a buzz if I occasionally won, the despair I felt when I lost was horrendous. I fessed up to my mum, who was very angry at my stupidity, but took out a loan to pay them all off. I joined GamStop and put affordability claims into 5 of these lenders with QQ being the last to settle. All in all I’ve had around 9k back. I paid mum back and bought all new white goods over the last 3 years. The rest has gone into a savings account for my Son, so he can take his driving lessons next year. This last payout will add to that to put towards a car. I can now sleep at night, my credit rating is now excellent and I feel like I can breathe again. I want to thank Sara for all the advice about claiming. I wish each and every one of you all the best for your futures and hope we have all learned our lesson from taking out these loans.

118 often reject good claims – they are losing a lot of cases at the Ombudsman so send it over to FOS, don’t be fobbed off. See comments below this page: https://debtcamel.co.uk/refunds-large-high-cost-loans/

Never the less I sent my case to the obuds and 18 months later I got all loans written off and a payment of 6k! So don’t let them fob you off! This will be the next company to go bust I’m sure of it. *Patiently tapping fingers* still no email…….. I hope I get my accepted claim amount landing in my bank by the end of the week or early next week, really need this money at the moment and it’s starting to get annoying not knowing or having comfirmation….. Having read though this thread it seems a nightmare to get through to speak to them via phone and I have sent an email asking for an update for myself with no response yet…..
Seems Monzo is the place to bank to see your money coming!!

send complaints to myjar@harrisons.uk.com with CLAIM as the subject. Just say that your loans were unaffordable and you want to make a claim for a refund on interest.

I’ve been trying to get them to change my banking details for months now!!! No one ever answered my calls or emails

I’m afraid I won’t see any of this as previously with NatWest who just closed my account while working out a covid payment plan

I’m afraid NatWest will keep this money and not return it

So frustrating as I feel hopeless in this situation

I think NatWest will have to return the money to the sender if your account is closed. I had an account with them too and they closed it – I was sent money by a friend who didn’t check my details remained the same . NatWest bounced the payment back to her. I’d imagine CEN will end up sending you a cheque 🙏

First of all, big up Sara. You’ve helped a lot of people here.

Also, my debt was sold to Lantern/Moriarty Law, and I paid £740 to them in instalments over the years until they agreed to suspend payments in light of my complaint regarding this situation.

Am I able to claim back the £740 that I paid to Lantern/ML as well?

There is no way to see pending payments for Halifax or Lloyd’s, if you are expecting a payment over 2.5k you may get a call from your acc opening branch advising that its coming in as they sometimes get a report in the morning but not always and it’s not something the phone banking team can see so don’t waste time trying to call. Just be patient I’m sure if others are getting payment tomorrow you will receive yours in the next few days too

118 fobbed me off so I sent it to the FOS but because I didn’t send it in the 6 months from complaining the FOS said I needed a good reason for them to investigate. I said that they had been investigating Avant Credit and other creditors of loans given to me and the Adjudicators and Ombudsman’s had come to the conclusion that they irresponsibly lent to me and 118 was taken out at the same time so a good reason to investigate but the FOS said they wouldn’t which I still think is wrong on their part.

I am sorry but you do have to send complaints to FOS within 6 months. It’s best to send them straight away. FOS can only look at a late complaint if you were in prison or hospital or there was some other emergency.

This is why many lenders like 118 reject good claims, they know many people will just give up or delay too long.

Hi Sara I had been sending other complaints to the FOS which where all being upheld but at the time of 118 I was going through a bereavement so I wasn’t really thinking straight. Also 118 do say some very worrying comments so it gets you very concerned so you don’t think you should send to the FOS. I did tell them all this but they wouldn’t investigate.

As a word of advice, makes sure to check the inboxes/spam folders of any old email addresses you may have been using previously – as many people received their email to an old email address (even after they thought they had updated contact details with QQ)

Also, seems there are a good few who believe they haven’t received the email, but can see a payment now pending with their bank (Monzo/Starling/HSBC)

        Hope that helps👍

Just give it a day or so before calling them and see you if a payment is received. It does seem really well organised so try not to panic.

I think it’s the same administrators as with Wonga which I was initially really upset about because Wonga was so chaotic but perhaps they’ve learned and perhaps they didn’t announce the payment until they’d already got lots of the payments set up. Honestly Wonga refunds were organised so badly but seemingly lessons have been learned.

probably 8 weeks. And then by letter! Send the complaint to the Ombudsman if they reject it saying the loans were more than 6 years ago as the Ombudsman will often look at these older cases.

No email but payment is showing as pending in my First Direct (hsbc) account! Doesn’t look like tax has been deducted and mine were really old loans. Who knows!!! But after nearly 5 years, this is finally put to bed. I was one of the so called people on the spreadsheet who was waiting payment within 28 days before they went in to admissions. It was heart reaching waiting for all that money to hit my account and then nothing. Now getting just over 50% is something and would just like to say a huge thank you to Sara for all the work you have done for the thousands of people on here. You deserve more recognition for what you have done. Hope everyone else gets there redress shortly.

Hi all. I dunno if this has been answered already but will this payout effect my universal credit?

Many thanks for a reply 👍

This counts as capital, not income, for UC. So unless you will have over 6k in the bank you shouldn’t have a problem or need to tell the DWP about it.

    Hi Sara,

Looking back at the email I received from Cash EuroNet back in February last year with the outcome of my claim assessment, I can see that they ‘accepted’ the claim against all of loans I took out (a mix of Quick Quid & On Stride) aside from 2 of the loans. One of the ‘rejected’ loans relates to one I had with OnStride – where about a year plus after paying off the loan in full ahead of schedule, it appeared on my Experian credit report that I had supposedly defaulted on the loan 2 years prior to this (dated to 2017). This was news to me – I never received a warning of default, or default notice. For some reason this hadn’t appeared on my credit report until almost 2 years after the supposed default date, which they did acknowledge was a mistake. I went through about a year of querying it with Experian, then On Stride directly who upheld it was correct, and tried my case with to the Ombudsman however because they then went into administration the ombudsman couldn’t pursue it. I then picked this up with Grant Thornton & had no positive result.

I’m not looking for a further refund, but rather to understand after years of trying to get the default removed if there’s any way I can get them to remove this still considering all my other loans were accepted (with a payment pending today). Do you think this is worth me still trying to appeal with the administrators to get this default removed? Thank you

This is hugely annoying. I don’t think you are likely to get much sense out of the adjudicators.

However, in 3-4 months the administrators will have stopped talking to the Credit Reference Agencies and at that point you can ask Experian (and any other CRA it is showing on – have you checked Equifax and TransUnion?) to “suppress the loan”. I have done the same in the past with nationwide and often it doesn’t mean a payment won’t go in tomorrow just that it’s not pending yet.

Possibly. To be fair I get paid on Friday so surely if they could see pending payments. Then that would have shown up. But they said nothing was on there

Nationwide don’t ever allow site of incoming pending payments other than cheques. Doesn’t mean it won’t arrive tomorrow/Friday though.

Set up a higher balance text alert. You set an amount and when your balance exceeds it, you’ll get a text. Just spoke to them via online chat and they confirmed they have no pending facility and no way of checking on their system either. It simply lands in the account when they carry out the run overnight.

    Still haven’t received an email!

Quick question regarding paying debt back to QQ, my debt was sold to PRA group many years ago that I’m finally trying to pay back but when I questioned them about the debt being classed as unaffordable they said I still had to pay (which I am doing).

You need to ask QQ what is happening about this.

See https://debtcamel.co.uk/quickquid-casheuronet-administration/comment-page-28/#comment-481691 which suggests that you may get a good result.

I had a different debt with PRA Group and they were chasing me for ages and I was told them I settled this in a debt plan but Lloyds hadn’t closed it down correctly. Anyway, eventually I said to them when exactly was this debt from and it turned out it was over 6 years ago and they stopped chasing me from that point so I would make a point to ask them when the debt is from.

Hi Curtis, I called QQ a couple of weeks ago and they updated my bank details over the phone. I also had to send a bank statement so they could validate them, had confirmation it was done but nothing is showing as pending on my Starling account. Wondering if this means we are in later batches

Quick one for anyone who may have an answer – got my email. Usual concerns floating about now, did I confirm my bank details? I haven’t got an audit trail to confirm bank details but I’m nearly sure I just logged into quickquid and did this at one point.

My address has changed but bank details have remained the same. Anyone remember how they validated bank details?

I’m Santander so they don’t show pending payments unless they are cheques I’ve handed in.

people only got the general administration updates if they signed up for them. But everyone should have been sent an email saying how much they would be paid.

A small donation to your local Citizens Advice or food bank would be lovely.

Many people with a sold loan may get a good result but need to ask the administrators what is happening – see this thread https://debtcamel.co.uk/quickquid-casheuronet-administration/comment-page-28/#comment-481691.

But in your case the IVA is a difficult complication. In theory your whole refund should probably be paid to your IVA firm.
