The administration of WDFC, the legal company who operated the Wonga brand, was completed in August 2020.
The company was finally dissolved in December 2020.
See Companies House records for details.
Background to the administration – rising complaint numbers
A payday loan is “unaffordable” if repaying meant you had to get into more debt, by borrowing again or getting behind on bills or other debts. So you may have repaid all your loans but still have a good claim for a refund of the interest you paid.
When Wonga went under there were over 200,000 people with current loans from Wonga – many of them had a good case for the interest to be removed from their balance so they only repay what they borrowed.
The Administrators proposals set out the reasons why Wonga went into administration. These were the increasing number of affordability complaints, especially from Claims Companies, and the decision by the Financial Ombudsman that FOS could look at loans over 6 years old, going back to 2007.
There were 24,000 affordability complaints awaiting a decision by Wonga and 9,500 complaints against Wonga with the Financial Ombudsman when Wonga ceased trading on 30 August 2018.
Details on the Administration
The Administrators have made various progress reports (available from Companies House) and statements during 2018-20:
- in October 2018, the Administrators published their Proposals, detailing how they planned to handle the administration. Creditors voted to approve these Proposals.
- progress report to end February 2019;
- Witness Statement in April 2019;
- progress report to end August 2019.
An online claim page was set up in April 2019 for Wonga customers to submit claims for refunds. The deadline for sending in a claim was 30 September 2019.
The Administrators assessed all claims using an automated tool. This took account of:
- all loans, including those over 6 years old
- how large a loan was compared to a customer’s income;
- how often someone borrowed without significant gaps;
- whether there were indications of hardship such as missed payments;
- if there is a balance outstanding for the right of set-off.
Where it decided one or more loans were unaffordable, it calculated how much interest should be refunded and added statutory interest at 8%.
In August 2019 the Administrators starting sending emails to people saying whether their claims have been successful or rejected.
In September, the Administrators sent an update on progress up to end August 2019. Key points include:
- at end August, 389,621 claims for unaffordable payday lending have been accepted by the administrators;
- the total value of these claims is c £460million – an average of c £1,200 a claim.
- £23m of outstanding loans have been collected. The Administrators say that outstanding loans are being taken into account and given the right of set-off where the customer has a claim for unaffordable loans.
- The remaining loan book will not be sold to a debt collector.
At this point the Administrators were saying that payments would be made by 30 January 2020.
29 January 2020 – administrators announce 4.3p in the pound
On 29 January 2020, the Wonga administrators announced that they will be paying 4.3p in the pound to unsecured creditors, including all the 400,000 people who are owed a refund for unaffordable lending.
The administrators have now given the final numbers:
- they assessed 401,202 claims as being valid;
- of these 358,129 are being paid 4.3% of their assessed compensation value;
- the remaining 43,073 also owed a balance on a loan to wonga, so their compensation has been used to clear or reduce that balance.
What happens next:
- the money should be paid within the next 4 weeks. This has come as a surprise as people had been told it would be paid by the end of January;
- the loans that are being refunded should be removed from your credit record in the next 6 weeks.
My comment – ripped off by Wonga and now let down by the regulators
The administrators told people they would get “significantly less” than that amount as there would not be enough money to pay the claims in full.
But many people will have been hoping for more than 4.3% and are very upset.
It is not the administrators’ fault there is so little money to be divided between so many people. It is the fault of the regulators – first the OFT and then the FCA – that they allowed Wonga to break the rules saying that affordability should be checked
And now the regulators have failed to ensure that these Wonga victims get the compensation they should have. When a PPI firm went under, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme stepped in and people with PPI claims got paid in full. But the FCA has not extended the FSCS to cover payday lenders.
This isn’t just a problem for the hundreds of thousands of Wonga victims. Borrowers from many payday lenders have been unable to get proper compensation after the lender has had to close. This will apply to QuickQuid, the money shop, Payday UK and Payday Express borrowers as well.
The FCA needs to rethink this and provide a safety net for people who were mis-sold unaffordable loans.
Readers comments – Shock and disappointment
This a brief overview of the hundreds of comments below this article.
Some people are happy to be getting anything:
- “I am only getting just shy of £25 but for the sake of completing a 30 second form it’s not too bad.”
- “I will be getting £79.93 of the £1854.17 I was owed. Better than nothing!”
- “£35 out of a possible £800. I wasn’t expecting much anyway. I’m more interested in having the 25 wonga loans removed from my credit file.”
The administrators had said people would get “significantly less” than the claim, but many people were hoping for at least 10%:
- “I got mine £88.67 – claim was £2057.05 – I was expecting at least a couple hundred.”
- “Claim was 3034, getting 130. By considerably less I didn’t think it would be over 95% of it. That is ridiculous.”
- “To receive £44.10 from a claim of £1023.00 is insulting to be honest.”
- “Owed £1499, getting £63…what an absolute joke!”
- “4.3% is an absolute disgrace. Although people are trying to be positive they shouldn’t have to. The people who made all the profit here would spend the biggest payout anyone has received on an evening out and not think twice about it.”
- “Gutted…. was hoping for at least the 10% speculated.”
This reader blamed not just Wonga but the regulators:
- “Over £11k accepted reduced down to £480 – my job, my marriage and 4 years of desperation followed by years of rebuilding my life – that’s what the regulators consider that to be worth! Shame on everyone involved in Wonga and the lack of regulation of lenders like them !”
Some are just are delighted that Wonga has gone under:
- “Heads up everyone…We have won in the end! They can no longer be a hindrance to any of us any more!”
- “Mines going to charity. Best thing to have happened is for them to have gone bust”
- ”Thank you Wonga you paid me to continue gambling, I lost everything. Good riddance.”
Many people are also disappointed and shocked that they aren’t being paid by the end of January. Some people getting these refunds are still in difficult financial circumstances and had planned to use the money to pay a bill or some debts.
February 2020 – some clarifications from the administrators
The remaining loans
The administrators have confirmed that no further payments are being accepted and the debts will not be sold to a debt collector. So you don’t have to worry about being taken to court or bailiffs.
But the debts are not technically being written off. They will remain on your credit record for 6 years from the default date on your credit record. If you don’t know what this date is, I suggest you check it now.
In practice, now the company in liquidation, if you contact a credit reference agency and say your Wonga debt is incorrect, you can ask the credit reference agency to “suppress” the record as Wonga can no longer say what the right entry should be. See How to correct credit records if the lender has gone under for details.
No deductions are being made for tax
The Administrators have said:
“the Joint Administrators have agreed with HMRC that the payment may be treated for tax purposes as set wholly against the interest and fees element first, and statutory interest second. As a result, where the distribution paid by the administrators to each customer does not exceed the interest and fees claimed by them, no withholding tax will be required to be deducted at source from payments made by the administrators in such cases.”
The simple version of this is:
- the administrators are not taking off any tax.
- there will, therefore, be no tax to have to reclaim.
- the vast majority of people will not have to pay any tax on any part of of the refund even if you are a higher rate taxpayer. The amounts don’t have to be declared if you complete an annual tax return eg if you are self-employed.
A small number of extra payments
A small number of customers were owed money by Wonga for a different reason, for example they may have overpaid on a loan. These extra amounts are also being paid out and you will get 4.3% of them too.
If you were not using a claims company, you should have received a single email at the end of January which mentions both amounts.
If you were using a claims company you should have received two emails, each about one of the amounts. If you have only received one email and it mentions a claim which is smaller than the amount you expected, you can contact the administrators, it may be this is the “extra” payment.
Bank account issues
I asked the Administrators why some people are still getting emails asking them to update their bank details. They say:
These emails will be in response to customers’ requests received by the Customer Care team prior to 29 January 2020 providing a secure method by which customers can update their bank account details. Customers should respond to these emails.
I asked the Administrators what will happen if they make a payment and it bounces back to them because the account is no longer open. They say:
Where updated information is available from customers we will attempt to reprocess bounced dividend payments via electronic transfer. Alternatively, we will issue a cheque to the address held on file.
A blogger contacted the Administrators on the 14th February to ask why she hadn’t been paid and was told:
“I can confirm that the joint administrators have commenced distribution of dividend payments to unsecured creditors, including those with redress claims. Given the volume of transactions that need to now take place, the administrators cannot guarantee an exact date when individuals will receive payment but are aiming to complete transactions within the next two weeks.”
February and March – payments started but with problems
I was told by the Administrators on Friday 28th February that 90%+ of payments have been made and they expect to make the rest of payments over the next two weeks by BACS. About 22,000 the following week, about 13,000 the week after. It looks as though the 22,000 group got their money. It’s not clear to me how many of the 13,000 group have.
Many people in the comments below this article were reporting probems. These included people whose bank accounts had never changes. Problems included:
- confusion over whether a claims company has been paid or they will be;
- Wongasaid payment was sent to a claims firm that hadn’t been used;
- Wonga said a cheque was sent to a house you no longer live it;
- Wonga said a payment has been made to your bank account but it hasn’t arrived ;
- Wonga has said a payment was sent to an old bank account despite new bank account details having been given and co0nfirmed as having been received.
On 2 March the Administrators said the payment process was taking longer than expected and payments would continue to about 40,000 people over the next 2 weeks:
The Joint Administrators have now attempted to make dividend payments to over 410,000 creditors… In addition to the payments that were not made we have had approximately 40,000 payments returned to us due to incorrect customer bank details recorded on file with Wonga. We will now begin contacting these customers whose payments were returned, by email, to obtain correct and up-to-date bank account details.
The dividend payment process is taking longer than anticipated and payments will continue to be paid during the next two weeks.
On 19 March the Admistrator’s announced:
The Joint Administrators have now attempted to make dividend payments to over 443,000 creditors representing 98% of the creditor population. This includes payments to creditors whose payments were briefly held back from the initial payment phase whilst additional validation checks were completed to new bank account and/or address details that were provided. The Joint Administrators now continue to focus on the remaining small population of unpaid dividends in order to complete the payment process.
From here on progress was very slow, impeded by lockdown.
End August 2020 – administration ends – do you still have a problem?
Have you not been paid?
The Administrators final report blames the payment problems of Wonga’s poor systems and on creditors who did not update their bank details when requested to. But as many comments below detail, people who had never changed their bank account or who had updated their bank details several times and had each confirmed also experienced prolonged delays.
At 28 Auguest when the administration ended, there were still c 49,000 payments with a total value of £632,000 that had not been made – an average about of £13 per payment. About 70% of these were for amounts owed before the administration, so not affordability complaints.
The Administrators have passed the £632,000 to the Insolvency Service. If any creditors want to claim an unpaid amount, they should email CustomerServicesEAS@Insolvency.gov.uk.
A problem with your credit record
If there is a problem with your credit record then you now need to contact the Credit Reference Agency where the problem is showing – Experian, Equifax or TransUnion. Say you can no longer get an answer from the administrators as the firm has been dissolved so you would like the CRA to “suppress” the credit records (list them) as they are inaccurate.
This problem could have been an error by the administrators, who failed to delete the record. It could be an error by Wonga before the administration: the loan date or balance or default date is wrong – you want the default date to be as early as possible so it drops off sooner – or Wonga may have failed to add a default date.
If the CRA refuses, send the CRA a formal complaint and this can be sent to the Financial Ombudsman. In practice people are getting these sorted with the CRAs without having to go to the ombudsman.
Don says
Have you all contacted your local MP about this? I urge you ALL to contact your local MP’s to complain of the Pay Day loan scandal and low payout. I heard a representative from the Financial Times saying she hoped there would be something in the March Budget for people who had suffered as a result of Wonga and other payday lenders. If everybody contacts their local MP this will be more likely to happen.
Laura says
I have Don. But you will notice that a a lot of people want to just complain about the administrators for some mad reason. My MP was very supportive what about yourself?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
it’s easy to email your MP through this site, just put in your postcode: https://www.writetothem.com/
Andy says
That is very positive about the FT Rep although anything could happen I guess.
Despite a cursory search out of interest for more details I was not able to find any more on this “thought”.
We’ll no doubt hear soon enough as Budget Day is not that far away and noted only the other day a new Chancellor too, the latter change is unlikely to make any difference though. There is scope for it but…
Ian says
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Got my money from wonga,
I hope you do too.
:)
Sue S says
Well got mine, out today to buy a new car, 😀 a toy one by the way!!!
Where does all the interest go from.all the years the money has been in the bank?
Not happy about the pittance they have given me, compared with what they took off of me when I was desperate!!!!!
AR says
Received mine either today or yesterday, didn’t check. What a really upsetting thing to recieive £430 from a redress of £9500 odd. Just wish I’d knew to complain way before the company was so far gone. Life changing amount spent but not returned. A very harsh lesson to try and learn. Let’s hope more of these companies complained to don’t go down the pan before they refund their customers. Fingers crossed.
Cliff P says
Just checked my bank, all paid! 234 English pounds as promised. 5000 plus would have been better.
Thank you Sarah for all your advice.
Pablo says
Haven’t followed this thread for a few days as wasn’t expecting anything for a week or two, but checked my account this morning and it’s gone in overnight. Only £62 something for me, but better than nothing, and will pay for a meal out tonight and a few drinks later me thinks (weather permitting!). I don’t quite get the BACS payments system but my bank generally updates over night, so not sure about weekend refunds etc…..Good luck to everyone still waiting, you should get something soon me thinks :-)
Laura says
Actually furious…..out of a £513 Claim
I got £22.11!!!!!!!!! When it said a small amount
Seriously it’s took pretty much the whole lot! Why accept the claim refund and wait months and give people false hope :((((
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Don’t get mad at the administrators, it’s not their fault there was so little money left. This shambles is the fault of the regulators that
a) allowed Wonga to carry on giving all these loans that broke the regulators rules and
b) have not provided a proper compensation scheme for when a lender goes bust.
Why not email your MP (easy if you use https://www.writetothem.com/) and say the government to provide proper compensation because this was a regulatory failure.
Deb says
My claim was for £922 & I’m still waiting for my £39 payout, we al in the same boat, pathetic amounts paid to everyone!
Nick says
Got mine!! Must of received it late lastnight as I was checking all day untill gone 6pm checked this morning and it’s there dated 14th
Cath says
Well I got my 12p today, why even bother !!!! 12p instead of £284 !!!!
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Several people have received less than they expected (look back through the comments above: Nicola, Lou, Kam, Paul, James etc).
This is probably because you have been sent an extra payment and your main redress payment hasn’t yet been paid. You need to phone and find out if this is the case with you.
Matt W says
Nothing for me. Little concerning seems as the majority have been paid.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I have no idea what percentage have been paid, it may be over 50% but there are certainly a lot of people who haven’t.
CHRIS says
Same here Matt. I had my email on the 29th and still nothing in the bank. Fingers crossed for today. 👍🏻
Jules says
I doubt there be any payments made over the weekend offices will be closed and I’m not sure how banks would process them anyway I’m not expecting it till end of nxt week now they seem to do things towards the end of the week going by emails and earlier payments we shall see but il be very surprised if payments do arrive before then for us still waiting
Devon1986 says
I’m still waiting too, as is hubby and mum. And all with different banks. So don’t think lots have been paid yet. Hang in there.
Laura says
With under 400,000 valid claims Matt you cant really conclude half have been paid from the comments here. They did say the end of the month so I wouldn’t get concerned till then, I’m not
Sarah says
Still waiting for mine. I’m with Yorkshire bank
Dawn says
Nothing here either and got previous emails promptly too. Won’t be concerned until the end of month (bank is TSB).
Cece says
Not paid yet, is it worth checking the bank over the weekend or do you think there won’t be payments processed now till next week?
They managed to pay us quick enough out of hours/ weekends when we were borrowing the money. My £370 out of £8666 would make a big difference between now and payday
MW says
Nothing for me yet either. NatWest.
Claire says
No still not paid either, not worried yet .. they are obviously doing it in batches. Looking forward to receiving the £404 soon!
Steve says
Has anyone been paid this morning? Im really hoping they are.
Thanks in advance and to Sara of course for this great forum
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Please only answer if you HAVE been paid this morning, not if you haven’t!
Gemma T says
Yes I got paid this morning, I bank with monzo so it alerts me on my phone the second the money hits my bank
I received my redress by faster payment at 9.44 am
Steve says
Thank you for your response Gemma. There’s hope yet then
Sean says
Thanks Gemma T, I havent been paid yet but yours is the first comment I’ve seen referring to Monzo bank and I also bank with Monzo.
Debs says
Hi guys I haven’t been payed ??
What’s the number to contact them ?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
If you received the “you will be getting 4.3%” email in January, there is no need to phone them. You will be paid, just because you aren’t one of the first doens’t mean you have a problem.
Emma says
Mine has been paid in today!
Fiontan says
I hadnt been paid so rang wonga, they had my wrong banking details, even though I dld them twice of my new details, anyway they are
sending a cheque to my address, I have no idea as to when, probably around November time LOL.
Sean says
Just so everybody knows – Wonga is not open today so don’t try calling!
Lee says
I had exactly the same issue! But they altered my bank details over the phone
John says
My bank details are correct like my sort code and account number but I’ve had new cards since taking loans with wonga.am I right it’s only the sort code and account number that they need to transfer the money?
Dawn says
Yeh that’s right. You should be fine. Ok still waiting, I think there going to take a while to get through all of us!
Bethany says
Was paid my 11 pounds last week, but feel so sorry for the ones still waiting. So hoping that you are all paid today or at least early next week. Try to keep positive and do something to take your mind of it. You MUST be paid. Take care
Joe says
My payment was in my account this morning – wasn’t there when I checked about 11pm last night. Just for information really to those who think it may not go in at the weekend.
Lisa says
Yeh got mine this afternoon so seems they are proceeding with payments randomly over the weekend, nice mid month extra Wonga (pardon the punt!) even if less than would’ve like!!!!!
Stephen says
I’m happy you have received your payment, I’m still wanting for mine to hit my Santander account, I’m getting tired of looking at it now
Jamie says
On Santander you can set up an alert and choose how much so you don’t have to keep checking lol
Paris La Salle says
Has anyone been paid even though they did not get the email confirming the amount. I have emailed Wonga but no reply
Sara (Debt Camel) says
A couple of people have. But if you want to be sure, you need to phone them to confirm this.
Alvin says
Still awaiting my payment also. At least the ball is now rolling.
Stephanie Crane says
I didn’t get an email either confirming the lower amount i.e. the 4.3% amount although I’ve had an email last week confirming my bank details?
Wonder if I should ring them too ? Is it still the normal Wonga number or is it the liquidators ??
Gwen says
Same here but haven’t had a reply
Annon says
Had the two emails from wonga confirming bank details. As they were correct I didnt take anymore action. I bank with santander still no money. owed £148. Wondered if many similar stories?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Lots of people haven’t been paid. If you had the emails confirming the amount then there is no need to worry.
Laura says
I think we just need to play the waiting game. I don’t have mine yet. I had all the emails on time the same as many others. The money will come the fact that others have theirs shows that. But as Sara said all along there is no guarantee when in the 4 week time scale we will get it. Some have just been more fortunate than others. Just need to be patient which I know is easier said than done!
Josh says
Received percentage email as soon as the first people mentioned them on here and I have had no issues with the process. I have Still not had payment, so I wouldn’t be worried. If I haven’t had mine, I’m sure there’s plenty that haven’t. Most Probably will go in early to mid next week.
Lynne says
Is it worth me calling just to double check my bank details? It sounds like someone else did that and that prompted the payment going in. Like others I’m getting a little worried that payments started a few days ago….
Sara (Debt Camel) says
No. It didn’t “prompt the payment going in”, it was a coincidence. The customer services staff have no control over that at all.
Anders says
No need to be worried yet, there’s still almost 2 weeks before the date they said payments will be made by.
Sarah says
Mine has just gone in!
andy says
i got my payment last week all £2.47 of it
in January i had a default turn up on my credit file from WDFC (wonga) on my emails i was told everything will be removed from my credit file and the loan i had outstanding would be settled as part of my claim how can they put a default on there now after this long i didnt have an account from them on my credit file for well over 12 months i have emailed them about it and sent the evidence should they compensate me for adding a default now for no reason ? if i did owe them money then why would i accept a payment when they couldve just taken the claim value from the debt i apparently owe now if it is a mistake then they need to fix it dont they
my email also said 45 days from the email date everything would be removed from my credit file an then within a week the default was there when my file updated
anyone else had anything turn up on there credit file instead of being removed ?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I don’t remember anyone reporting this. I hope it will all be deleted when everyones records go in a few weeks. If you want to be sure, you need to phone them up and ask.
Nikki says
Hi I have loads on there plus money shop ones how do I get those removed please thanks
Sara (Debt Camel) says
All your Wonga loans that were being refunded will be deleted in a few weeks.
For Money Shop, have you put in a Claim? See https://debtcamel.co.uk/money-shop-to-close-two-million-customers-will-be-informed/.
BUT take a copy of your credit record NOW showing all the loans before that wre deleted. If you ever need to make another affordability complain about sone other sort of credit, you want to be able to show the true picture of how bad your credit record was with all these loans on there. Keep that report – perhaps email it to yourself marked Do Not Delete!
Julie B says
Hi Sara, hi guys, I bank with RBS and nothing gone into my account yet however it may be a case that it has gone it bus hasn’t shown as yet as RBS (and I guess a few other banks) often don’t show transactions over the weekend (ie it may show in the early hours of the morning, in my account it is usuallly around 3pm ish). Just a thought. May not be that at all but they do have a couple of weeks yet to make payments and there are an awful lot of them to get through
Jason says
It’s a faster payment, nothing to do with days of the week. It will hit your account soon I’m sure, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Mark says
Nothing as of yet but it’s good to see people are getting the money they were promised, sorts my mot and service out and possibly 2 new tyres lol
Lesley says
I’m sure I’d read there were something like 305,000 payees to go through. Assuming that they are working a 6 day week (people reporting payments on a Saturday), and taking into account they only started 2 weeks into the 4 week payment period, that’s something in the region of 23,000 people to pay each day!
It will get to you, those not already paid just need to wait it out.
Gray says
Although I got my payment last week I have had an email from Wonga this morning saying, “Dear Mr………. Payments will be made in the next four weeks. This is du to the volume of payments being made and processes we have to follow.
We are unable to give any further information about when the funds will be received, kind regards Wonga ”
I have never sent them an email, so no idea on this one.
Steve says
I just think how we are only getting 4.3% of the money we are owed is ridiculous where is the other 95.7% gone to they haven’t explained that
Sara (Debt Camel) says
The “money you were owed” was never money sitting in a bank account waiting to be repaid. The repayments to your wonga loan were used to pay interest to Wonga funders, provide more loans, pay staff, rent & rates, heating, IT bills, adverts etc etc.
The 4.3% is what you get when all the remaining money (less the amount to complete the adminsitration and close the company) is distributed.
You were robbed – but blame the regulatory system that let Wonga give all these loans in breach of the regulators rules. They should have been closed down in 2011, not 2018.
Nikki W says
Has anyone been paid today?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
As of 10.30 no one had reported being paid today.
Pip says
Just reviewed my payment 15 minutes ago, bank with Halifax
Helen says
Just was paid, 1pm into a Santander account!
Mez says
Paid just now.
Daniel says
Well I have just phoned up to check my bank details.
I was threatened by a member of staff and discriminated against.
Please be very careful if you call the contact centre, if you suffer mental health issues, please ensure you have support with you when ringing to avoid upset.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I am very sorry to hear that. Their contact staff will be under a lot of pressure but they should always behave professionally and politely. If you would like to put in a complaint about this to grant Thornton, I suggest you phone 020 7383 5100 – NB that will not be directly to the Wonga team so there is no danger of that phone being answered by the same person you spoke to earlier. Equally, they will not be able to take your bank details or answer any questions about Wonga, but they should listen and take the details of your complaint.
Skells says
Oh, and thanks very much for this forum, Sara. Really appreciated.

Bob says
Thank you for all your help Sara! I have received my payment and now will treat my kids to an outing and icecream tomorrow as is half term. Hope everyone receives there payment soon!
Dee says
Morning…
Good to hear some people have received their payments.
My MP John McDonnell responded and raised questions in parliament as some of you might have seen.
Petition only has 2000 signatures so 8000 more is a long way off to even get a proper response from parliament.
I have written to No 10, which was then referred to HM Treasury, however, following Savid Javids resignation I am unsure where my complaint has gone now.
Martin says
Im with Halifax and have been paid today
Steven says
Hello,
The only thing that comes to my mind is – complaints like these may well provide a benefit to those in the future with other companies however it will almost certainly not change the circumstances surrounding the Wonga situation.
Even if they were to look at changing the law, this would take months/years to complete and as the Wonga situation would have been prior to this we would not benefit from this.
Kind regards
Steve
Amj says
Just received mine

Chel says
Hi. Was this sent as bank transfer? I’ve just had my bank blocked so now not sure if they are going to be able to deposit the money in, the lady at Lloyds said if it was a giro credit it would but I’m not sure how Wonga are paying out.
Chloe says

Wow. i checked bank account and received £445 on Friday. I had rung them a week or o ago and was told I would get £85 which seemed low but I had to accept it. So so delighted to get even more than I had calculated! Thanks Sara for all your info and hard work

Felicity says
Received my refund within the last hour ! Thank goodness this is over.
I have found this site so helpful and supportive. I couldn’t talk to anyone in real life so it has been great to know I have not been alone .
Herb says
Sara / All,
I have too just received my redress etc. I am not kidding but I have checked a number of times and literally just called Wonga to check my details. moments later it was there. Don’t want to give false hope but it was quite a co-incidence
Regards
Natalie says
May be pure coincidence. I phoned this morning to confirm they had updated bank details, for peace of mind. I have not recieved my redress as of yet, I have alerts set on my online banking to let me know when my credit reaches a certain point. No point in stressing checking online banking every 5 minutes. Mine will come soon enough. Enjoy your money though 😁
Milly says
Could I ask what number you called?
thanks
Sue says
Hi been a silent lurker for a while being encouraged by all your comments. To let the guys know that are anxious re payments still coming through – I have just now received my redress. It seems to come into account without warning (had checking my transaction status this morning and no incoming pending at 10:00 am but appeared about 30 mins ago). I paid my water bill and have enough left to treat myself and daughter to a kebab and bottle of cheap plonk. Am happy with that. Thanks to you all posters for the interesting comments and to Sarah for the great work.
Best wishes
Sue
Matt says
I have just got mine :-) I bank with HSBC!
I was getting annoyed with everyone getting there’s! Keep being patient although I know that easier said than done!
Bring on the QQ payments….
Kerry says
I have just received my payment of £165. The actual relief is incredible! Excellent work here Sarah.
Fingers crossed for everyone else!
Darren says

Stefanie says

Tom says
Just received a payment in to bank of £100. Doesn’t say where payment is from. In the email they sent, they said it would be £160. I’m confused why it’s even less now…
Sara (Debt Camel) says
why do you think this is from Wonga?
Jordan says
I was paid at 2:30 PM – Nationwide
AndrewP says
Just received mine today. So hopefully they will all be done by the end of the week.
Tasha says
Hey just checked my account and payment of £221.78 from a claim of £5144 has been paid.
It’s been a long road but we’ve gotten there in the end even if it wasn’t the outcome we expected.
Big thank you to Sara for keeping this page going and giving us updates, must be stressful but it’s much appreciated.
Didn’t feel alone knowing we were all here going through it together. Great lessons learned and I’m just thankful that I got out of the payday loan spiral a number of years ago and I am financially savvy and free. Wonga down awaiting PaydayUK’s claims assessment and payout.
Gillian says
I’ve just had my payment, must have been made within the last hour.
Nicola says
Mine was paid today at 1pm
Andrea says
What happens with the loans being removed from your credit file?
Lee says
I am still yet to receive my payment. I updated my bank details mid January. I received the email to advise the account details were changed. It wouldnt surprise me if they paid the refund into the old account!
Robert says
Hi stupidly i used a [claims comapny] to do my claim Going to lose 25% but its not the end of the world. Was wondering by any chance anyone else use a claims firm and if so any money received yet? cheers!
KAREN says
Still no money in my account. Would Wonga have given me this long to pay if I fell behind with my payments I do not think so without bombarding me with emails, I don’t think so .
Natalie says
Hopefully will come to you soon enough. Tbh, with them pushing the date back to the 4 weeks commencing the 4.3% email I honestly thought they wouldn’t start making payments till the end of this month so this is a complete bonus. I am still waiting on my redress too, fortunately I am currently in a position not to be relying on this money. I know this situation doesn’t help you out but I hope everything works out for you.
Milly says
Hi, I will give it a couple more days but after changing bank details I am concerned as to whether it was successful after receiving conflicting emails with old bank info on them after being told updated.
Does anyone have the number that they called to check that they were updated successfully? Thanks
JS says
Been paid – Wonga its over :)
Waiting on
LS at FOS
PDEx claimed via portal
PDUK took their offer before scheme went live, loans older than 6 years not included, took the gamble not to wait, scheme may look at these older loans? Dunno. Think i made the right call due to % paid by WDA and Wonga – thanks to Sara for the advice around this.
QQ took their offer in May as worried they were going to collapse, now waiting for portal, they may look at my loans that weren’t compensated? Dunno. Think I made the right call anyway
Tax rebate for original QQ refund
All the best to everybody with their claims – Sara you are a ledge :)
Kirsty says

Karen says
Hi All,
I have just received my redress payment 722.80 and looking forward to putting the horrid debt stress fully behind me and clearing 129 loans off my credit history.
We can all start to put this behind us
Nick says
My payment (£100.15) has arrived within the last hour. Can now put this one behind me. To be honest, I wouldn’t have even thought about claiming against other lenders (MyJar/Sunny/Lending Stream) if it hadn’t been for Wonga going into Admin & being sent the email asking whether I wanted to lodge a claim. When I was given my original Wonga redress figure (£2K +) I realised that I had a chance with claims against the other companies. Thanks to this website I have been successful with 2 & have had over £10K worth of debt removed &/or repaid…. just waiting on Lending stream now to reply to the FOS decision. So thanks Sara for everything you do. :-)
Christopher C says
Still haven’t received my repayment yet I bank with the Nationwide, should I start to get worried and ring Wonga
trevor says
Nor have I had mine just gotta sit tight
Emily says
I’ve not had mine either :( .. also bank with Nationwide.
Was one of the first to get the redress email- so no idea what order it’s going In.. must just be random.
Hopefully we see something soon!
Rosie says
I have still not received mine either
Ian says
Same boat here. I doubt they have got half way through the payments yet, so not getting worried just yet. I suspect there are a few of us still waiting.
Laura says
Nothing yet here either, although its only £20 but never mind haha
Ryan says
Still no money for me either, anyone with Lloyd’s been paid?
Adam says
My redress has gone in roughly 10 mins ago, now onto Safetynet Credit! Don’t know what I’d have done if I didn’t find this site. From being swamped I could be debt free within 3 months. Thanks Sara!
Jane says
Just had a payout of £111.50
Kelly Spriggs says
Both myself and my partner just got our redress and he didn’t even get the email :)

rachael says
I have just received mine now!!!! Just in time for my daughters 3rd birthday!!! So relieved- good luck guys!! It will come!!!
Alice E says
Aw that’s lovely timing :-). Got mine this afternoon as well. Just to say a huge thank you to everyone (I cannot discuss it outside here either) and especially Sara. I’ve spent this afternoon completing affordability complaints with other lenders – feeling totally galvanised and much more in control after these pages, the step-by-step guidance is fantastic. It’s not an understatement to say Sara and these pages have saved my health and I can now see a future. Thanks so much. xx
James says
Still have not got my payment yet, judging by the comments it looks like the bigger payments are paid first…
Lloyds bank, £72
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Many much smaller payments than that have been made.
James says
Thanks, was just me skimming through and seeing bigger numbers! Just me being inpatient!!
Gemma Wynn says
Has anyone had any payments today? Desperately waiting!!
Helen says
Nothing yet. Checking my account no end of times a day!!
Sarah Norrish says
It’s disgraceful! I have waited over 3 years and was told last october id be receing just under £1000. The told ill only get £40. Whilst waiting for this money after all their calculations, what is happening to all the interest it is gaining sitting in there bank account whilst they prolong the delay……
Ricardo says
Just received mine 16:15. Good Luck all. Ty Sarah
Trudi says
I have just received my £62 within the last hour.

Finally, closure after 18 months.
Thankyou to Sara – I have donated £34.04 to my local food bank in canned foods amongst other things. Good luck to everyone (after reading stories and how they’ve changed things) – it’s been an eye opener to many
Hopefully all loan companies follow suit as I’m awaiting replies from other companies.
Thanks again.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I am sure your donation will be a great help to local families.
Carol says

Jane Y says
I have just received mine! Now just waiting for responses to all the others. Not long now everyone!
Jade says
Just received my payment within the last hour. I know it’s hard, but be patient guys, it’ll happen. I’ve been checking my bank app every few hours since they started making payments 🙈
James says
Find it amazing quick to deposit 18p but not to do the rest!! Need to patient I suppose.
Matthew says
Recieved my redress payment today hope everyone else gets theres soon
Tomas says
I got my £121 this afternoon too. QuickQuid was delaying my claim for months – they knew they were going to administration. So I will meet many of you on their claiming website. Also tried my luck through Resolver with Sunny and 118 118. Sunny said I wasn’t entitled to anything and 118 didn’t even bother to reply. Both cases escalated to the financial ombudsman now. Good luck all.
Christine says
Mine has been paid .sometime between 4 and 5pm I’m with Santander
Andy says
My £208 came in at half 3 today, lloyds bank. Seems they are running them throughout the day to process the high volume
Gemma says
I still have not had my money through yet – is anyone else still waiting? I am with Monzo and if there is a payment pending I can see.
stephen says
still not had mine , seems like they have 1 person sat there inputting 1 by 1
Philip Bradley says
Nothing here either 😕
Sam says
Not received mine either despite having email confirming bank details last year.
I know we just have to be patient but feels slightly worrying and frustrating seeing so many people get theirs.
KAREN WILLIAMS says
Sick of waiting now have told GT that unless I receive payment today I will be looking at taking legal action, after all would Wonga have waiting this long to get money out of us, I do not think so.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
There is no practical legal action you can take. You cannot start a simple money claim against Wonga or the administrators.
Gemma says
I updated my bank details early December, bank with Barclays and still nothing as of yet. Will I receive this payment later than others due to my bank details being updated? It’s half term and that money would be incredibly handy as of now lol
Sara (Debt Camel) says
some people who updated their bank details have already been paid. I know it is very frustrating but it seems totally random the order they are paying people in.
Chris says
Just recieved my redress. TSB account
Thanks Sara
Next up QQ….
Denise says
Hi Guys,
Just a quick uodate and HUGE THANK YOU to Sarah (DebtCamel)👍👍👍
Received My WDFC-REDRESS CREDIT £97.34 👍👍 ( I bank with the Cooperative Bank) x For those of you that have not yet recieved your funds dont worry its on it’s way👍 Dx
Stu says
Just checked and redress amount has been put into Barclays.. Seems as payments are now coming through throughout the day… Hope that everyone waiting gets paid soon.. Thank you to Sara for the site and the updates and to the other readers for keeping us all informed..
Robbie says
Payment received about 530pm today woop woop
Ryan says
Hello everyone, my payment has gone in within the last couple hours – Santander account.
Steve says
Got my payment of £160.22 at 3pm today.
Happy to receive it but considering the amount Wonga got out of me over a few years it’s small change.Anyway hope everyone who’s waiting gets their payment soon.
Anon says
I think I received mine in the last two or three hours… £25 TSB. Hope everyone receives theirs soon, don’t worry it’s coming :)
Dee says
Ok…received my payment this afternoon, however, it was not put in the right bank account.
The administrators stated it would be put in an account number ending XXXX and to not respond to the email if there was nothing wrong with the details. I didn’t respond as that was the correct account I wanted it to go into…so interestingly it has gone to a totally different account (they must of had these other account details on file)
Terry says
Has anyone been paid post 6pm? I only ask this as their customer support via phone closes at 6pm.
If nobody has been paid after 6 then I’ll give up checking my online banking until tomorrow.
Chrissy says
I had mine at 6:45pm tonight with Barclays
Joanne says
Just got my £170 paid into my HSBC account. Not the amount I had hoped for but just happy to get something back.
Lorna says
Only just received my divedend email today haha
Ryan C says
Right basically when wonga sent me the email saying how much I would get it stated that it would go into my account ending in XXXX which was correct but within that time my card had expired so all other numbers had changed except the account and sort code. Could this be the reason why I haven’t received my redress?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
I think that’s unlikely. All the payment needs is your sort code and account number.
And lots of people with no bank issues at all haven’t been paid.
Charlotte says
I got a payment about mid day today, but I had 2 different accounts with wonga and was owed redress from both and I’m still waiting for the other payment – so it would seem that the order of payments is completely random to the point that even where the same person is being paid the payments are not being released together. They will arrive, just gotta be patient – although bit frustrating as communication was that payments would be made by end of Jan and it’s now mid Feb!
Matthew says
Hi I got email on the 29th saying 348.06 from 8074.21 but still nothing yet same bank so I have left it ?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
yes, no need to worry that you haven’t been paid yet.
Danny says
I’m not happy with them at all I was paying back my loan until December when they stopped taking payments I was due a refund of £333 which they deducted of my overall balance so still owned them money the rest will be pushed aside but will stay on my credit file for 6 years
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Was the last defaulted loan assessed by the administrators to be unaffordable?
When did you miss payments to the last loan?
Danny says
My loan was being paid back via a debt management plan but the loans they assessed on for my refund wasn’t this one or my last couple ones it was from 2015 and 5 loans they agreed for refunds
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Then the last loan should have had a default date of 2015 or 2016 – did it? If it doesn’t, you can email Wonga and ask them to correct that.
Danny says
It was default back in 2016 I see it as I’ve not been compensated for anything cos the current loan was going to get pushed aside and will be on my file for a few years but they have not communicated to me since September.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
Then this will drop off in 2022.
I can see that this feels unfair to you, but you did still owe Wonga money and the administrators entitled to use compensation used to you to pay off as much of that as possible.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
There have been too many people just saying they haven’t been paid to publish all those comments. there are a LOT of people waiting. If you still are, this isn’t something to be worried about if you had the 4.3% email and your bank account hasn’t chnaged.
Ryan C says
Has anyone been paid with Lloyd’s bank as I have gone through the posts and not seen a single person say they have?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
lots have – here is a recent one today: https://debtcamel.co.uk/wonga-has-stopped-issuing-loans/comment-page-37/#comment-348256
Hostie61 says
I’m with Lloyd’s don’t worry I’ve not been paid neither
Kat says
I had mine through I think it was Friday. I’m with Lloyds x
Lynne says
So basically they’ve got 10 days to complete these payments. Let’s hope they get through them as quickly as possible. We’ve waited long enough now.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
it seems like a lot are going through now.
Dan says
Any idea how long it will be before Wonga will remove the loan records from credit files?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
They said within 45 days when they sent out the 4.3% email. so sometime in the next 3-4 weeks probably.
LF says
The payment I am waiting on is in respect of my late mother, I sent all the documents and received the email on 29/1 regarding the 4.3%. I supplied my bank details and the last 4 digits on the email were correct for my bank account. So the bank details did have to be changed should I just wait or should I contact them to confirm details.
Sara (Debt Camel) says
That all sounds OK, I am not sure there is any reason to be concerned.
Anzzzz says
I had a number of loans accepted for resdress. I am however unsure whether wonga or the administrators found out I had multiple wonga accounts. I think I had two at least. If they haven’t found my other account and haven’t added it to my payment is there still time to fix this ?
Sara (Debt Camel) says
You should have told the administrators at the start or appealed the amount they assessed your claim at. But this is now too late.
Joan says
Mine has just gone in ..
