I set up Debt Camel in 2013 to write about what really matters to people who have a debt problem and to talk about the common questions that get asked.
In 2023 I switched my regular posting to Instagram. I now mostly use this website as a place for longer articles.
My main aims are for Debt Camel are:
- to talk about people’s concerns about debt, credit ratings, etc.
- to talk about debt and money decisions in a way that is straightforward and accessible.
- to provide signposts to detailed information, debt advice and practical help.
I am interested in debt policy – how it is changing and how it should change.
National Debtline has described this site as “very clear, it answers a lot of common questions without jargon“. I hope it can help you!
A personal, non-commercial blog
This is my personal blog. The views I express on Debt Camel are my own.
Debt Camel does not require regulation because it is not carrying out any regulated activity by way of business. It is not a business. There is nothing on Debt Camel that brings in any income for me. There are no adverts or links that make me money. Unlike many sites that promise ‘free debt advice’, I don’t make money by referring people to anyone that pays me a fee.
I don’t accept donations. If you have been helped by something I have written and would like to say “thank you”, please make a donation to your local Citizens Advice.
I was a debt adviser for about twenty years.
I am connected with a number of organisations in the debt advice sector:
- I am a Trustee of the Institute of Money Advisers.
- I am on the Editorial Committee for Quarterly Account, a professional journal for the money advice sector.
- I am a member of the Money Advice Liaison Group(MALG) and in July 2022 was appointed as a MALG Ambassador.
In 2020 I contributed a chapter The rise and rise of affordability complaints to “Debt and Austerity – Implications of the Financial Crisis”, an edited collection of academic articles.
Where to get debt advice
Debt Camel provides general information about debt problems and possible solutions. I can’t give you advice by email or phone on your particular debt problem.
Many people with serious debt problems will need help from elsewhere. If Debt Camel helps them understand a bit about their situation and their possible options, they should find this speedier and less scary.
If you need debt advice and support, I recommend these organisations.
